Alright, the 83rd Annual Academy Award nominations are in. Now it's time to analyze, bitch and moan, celebrate, postulate and what have you, depending on your subjective opinion of the way the noms turned out (it's honestly amusing watching the Oscar "expert" bloggers quiver in their boots about the diminishing shine on "The Social Network" even though it still has a great shot at Best Picture; worlds have been accordingly rocked.).

2010 ended with a whimper with most studio execs facing an uncertain 2011, as the year closed with eight consecutive weekends of box office earning lower than its 2009 counterpart despite five major 3D releases goosing prices. Of course, 3D is a gimmick, but it’s foolish to consider that each of those five films were relative underperformers due to disinterest in the format when even the most ardent fan must admit to subpar product. Of course, the industry is always looking for a scapegoat when the answer is clearly, “terrible movies are being made and should not be,” so the disappearance of 3D (not likely) will happen before a sudden spike in high quality entertainment.

With a team stretching and reaching around the world with editors and writers in the United States, Canada, UK, Australia and beyond, getting a consensus on the top ten films of the year from the entire Playlist team is pretty much impossible. Not everyone has had a chance to see the majority of the films from this year yet, and tastes and preferences differ from writer to writer. Instead, the editors and writers will be presenting their individual lists for the year.

New Year's Eve weekend delivers a grand slam of arthouse darlings for you indie film lovers out there. Ring in 2011 with one of the many highly praised and anticipated films that we personally hope (and bet) will be Oscar faves as well. They've already graced many a year end list, and now is your chance to see these films on the big screen near you. Think of it as a post-holiday cleanse of the mind, ridding your brain of any memories of "Tron: Legacy" or "Little Fockers." New year, time to get away from the bloated studio dreck-- bring on the lean, mean, art cinema machines!

'True Grit' & 'Another Year' Totally Shut Out, '127 Hours' Fails To Score Directing Or Best Drama NodsOnly in the bizarro world of the Hollywood Foreign Press does "The Tourist" earn a Best Picture nomination and Danny Boyle's "127 Hours" go empty-handed. Granted, the Depp/Jolie pic scored a nod in the Best Comedy or Musical section and Boyle's mountain climbing drama was shut out of the five noms-only Best Dramatic picture category, but still, doesn't that seem odd?

Sending a signal to Oscar prognosticators, the fake-intellectuals who mock "Iron Man" and masturbate to "The King's Speech," a phalanx of critics organizations revealed their top honors this weekend, drawing a line in the sand. Their message? "The Social Network" is on one side of that line, and all other movies are on the other. The Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the New York Film Critics Online and the Boston Society Of Film Critics selected the David Fincher drama as the year's best film, while the AFI listed the film as one of the year's (unranked) 10 best.

OK, so this trailer isn't all that different than the UK version that debuted earlier in the year, but you'd think with the festival season now finished and Oscar talk in full swing that Mike Leigh's "Another Year" has hit theaters already. Well, it hasn't, and we hope this is a reminder that's it still set to hit theaters and is more than worth seeking out.

Following 2008's somewhat broad and farcical "Happy-Go-Lucky," director Mike Leigh returns to his strong suit, with a gentle snapshot of the tides that rock the lives of an ensemble of ordinary folk from spring through winter.
