It’s called the news dump. You don’t drop news on a Friday at the end of the day, just hours before the Memorial Day weekend because you want people to read the news. In fact, this strategy hopes that by Monday you’ll have forgotten and life will go on.

The Marvel machine, for the most part, is a carefully scheduled, well-oiled machine, allowing the comic studio to deliver at least two movies per year and keep an eye on their brewing TV and streaming projects while continuing to build out their extended universe. But today, that synchronized operation got a major glitch.

The Avengers
Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man" seems to be done most of its major casting, but one more name has been announced. Relative unknown and "Terminator 3" actor Matt Gerard has joined the cast as the movie's villain; or one of them anyhow. The identity of that villain is currently unknown and like most Marvel movies, we assume they'll be more than one antagonist

Scarlett Witch: Concept Art
The Marvel Universe of comics has thousands of beloved characters and many of the A-list heroes have clocked time as members of "The Avengers." The sequel to Marvel's 2012 billion-dollar grosser, "The Avengers: Age Of Ultron" will boast at least two new major members from the comics: Quicksilver (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and The Scarlett Witch (played by Elizabeth Olsen).

Patrick Wilson doesn't do the blockbuster thing very often, and when he has — "Watchmen," "The A-Team" — the results have been mixed to say the least. But he's going to give it another shot, because when Marvel comes calling, you pick up the phone.

Steven Price Ant-Man
With a BAFTA win under his belt last night, and a potential Oscar on the horizon, thirty-six year old rising composer Steven Price couldn't ask for a better arrival in Hollywood. His work on "Gravity" is already career-defining stuff — not bad for only the third feature film composing credit to his name — and it's not a surprise he's already being tapped from all quarters for more gigs. He's already set to tune up David Ayer's forthcoming WWII flick "Fury," and now Price is going superhero for Edgar Wright.

"It would take a lot, it would take a pretty darn impressive project for me to play a kind of tank top-wearing, tomboy girl, woman. I don’t want to say I’m bored with that because that might be a bit too extreme, but I just feel like I have exhausted that part of my performing life," Evangeline Lilly told us in December about reprising Kate-like roles after she shot to fame on "Lost." And indeed, she kicked a whole lot of butt as Tauriel in "The Hobbit: Desolation Of Smaug." So we're certainly curious what's drawing her to Marvel.

‘Ant-Man’ Moves To Former ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ Summer 2015 Release Date

With "Batman Vs. Superman" pushed back to 2016 for the official reason being that the studio wants to make it as awesome as possible, it was inevitable that some other player was going to take the vacant weekend. And Marvel has done just that in what could be seen as a bit of payback. Read More »

While Marvel likes to keep a veil of secrecy over their projects, it seems they have a leaky faucet in their offices. Just after news broke last night that Johnny Depp was in loose discussions for "Doctor Strange," now another actor is being linked to another big, upcoming project, with Marvel already denying the story.
