Sabotage
After the flops "The Last Stand" and "Escape Plan," it's becoming a real question as to whether audiences want to see Arnold Schwarzenegger in anything that's not a pre-built franchise. But maybe surrounding him with a massive ensemble—Sam Worthington, Terrence Howard, Joe Manganiello, Dawn Olivieri, Malin Akerman, Olivia Williams, Mirielle Enos and Josh Holloway—might get a few more people in the door.

Escape Plan
If this were 1988, the world would stop for “Escape Plan,” which finally pairs Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger as above-the-title talents. The duo haven’t been able to keep themselves from looking backwards in recent films: both seem in denial of their advanced ages, with Schwarzenegger taking on roles fit for someone two decades younger, and Stallone content to play his greatest hits, sometimes in duet form with the “Expendables” movies. Appropriately, “Escape Plan” also doesn’t feel as if it’s made for this era, but amusingly seems like a relic of the early aughts, when Stallone was fronting dubious direct-to-video schlock, Schwarzenegger was a declining attraction, and getting 50 Cent in a supporting role seemed like a major coup.

Seeing as how both their solo movies (“The Last Stand,” “Bullet to the Head”) fizzled at the box office earlier this year, it’s only natural that Stallone and Schwarzenegger would try to team up for an action movie. They've done just that in the upcoming “Escape Plan” and it’s the action pairing we always wanted… 25 years ago. Even so, maybe putting them together when they’re pushing 70 could actually be fun? It can be our generation’s “Grumpy Old Men,” but set in prison and with much more violence. How fitting. Still, the question remains, can a Stallone-Schwarzenegger pairing be enough to get the audiences’ butts in the seats or will they only find success in the action hero ensemble 'Expendables' franchise? Perhaps a few more clips from “Escape Plan” can help people decide.

Escape Plan
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone fighting is pretty much the single selling point of the otherwise bland-looking "Escape Plan," which features a title that's practically straight-to-video-bin ready. Considering these guys can barely muster a hit outside of "The Expendables" lately, they are likely hoping that combined, they find some greater success.

Across three films—"The Terminator," "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" and "True Lies"—Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron have made some iconic blockbusters and also a helluva lot of money. Moreover, they've become friends as well, with Schwarzenegger honoring the director at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival a few years back, and even joining Cameron deep in the jungles of the Amazon when he was working on a documentary about tribes in the region. And now, could they now be looking to re-team back on a film set?

Alan Taylor has officially claimed the iron throne. The "Game of Thrones" director, whose big-budget Marvel project "Thor: The Dark World" opens this fall (the footage we saw at D23 was officially "quite good"), has been named the director of the next "Terminator" film from Annapurna Pictures and Paramount. The next entry in the time traveling cyborgs franchise is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2015, along with every other huge movie ever.

Fredrik Malmberg, the CEO of Paradox Entertainment, a company that currently holds the rights to the "Conan the Barbarian" franchise (originally created by pulp author Robert E. Howard), claims that the new 'Conan' movie, which is slated to star Arnold Schwarzenegger in the iconic role he made famous back in 1982, will actually/hopefully be the first part of a new trilogy. Good lord that's a lot of Conan!

Last week marked the 20th anniversary of the release of John McTiernan's "Last Action Hero." Ostensibly a spoof of hyper-violent action movies, wherein a young boy named Danny (Austin O'Brien) is magically transported into the world of his favorite action star (Arnold Schwarzenegger, of course), the film went on to become one of the most notorious flops in Hollywood history – an example of the fateful collision of artistic arrogance, unreasonable expectations and a faulty product whose concept never fully solidified. It's a movie that should have been a straightforward send-up of things like “Lethal Weapon” but included jokes about cartoon cats and references to “The Seventh Seal.” McTiernan, who is currently serving a year sentence in federal prison for lying to a federal officer, gravely described "Last Action Hero" to Empire Magazine as "the worst time I’ve ever had in this business.” It was that traumatic.

"But it's supposed to be dumb!" certain audiences cry, when defending whatever dim action movie is causing chatter, which this week is "White House Down." While we hoped it would qualify as dumb yet awesome, it's just plain awful, with a self-seriousness that extinguishes whatever fun it might be trying to have with the genre. And yeah, we'd reckon the same applies to this latest offering from Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzene

Arnold Schwarzenegger is determined to become a big screen star again, even though audiences don't seem to care about him in non-"Expendables" movies. Did you go see "The Last Stand" earlier this year? Do you even give a shit about his upcoming movie "Escape Plan" with his buddy Sylvester Stallone? Yeah, thought so and you'll probably care just as much about this.
