Does piracy help or hurt the industry? Heading into 2014, that's the riddle that still has a variety of answers depending on who you ask. There are some who say that that being able to "sample" music (or movies or films) first leads to folks buying concert tickets, DVDs or merchandise, thus still providing a revenue stream to the creative people and content creators behind those efforts. Others say that theft is theft, and that an album or movie downloaded is still a lost album or ticket sale. And even at HBO, opinion is divided, as their most popular show is also their most illegally downloaded.

With Marvel now moving ahead on their "S.H.I.E.L.D." TV series, the superhero invasion that has hit the big screen will likely explode on the small screen as well. And while there have been pockets of shows here and there -- most notably "Smallville" -- for the most part, dudes or dudettes in tights haven't fared well (please see last year's failed "Wonder Woman"). CW hopes to have a hit on their hands with "Arrow," but as this first clip demonstrates, they'll have a few hurdles to clear.

Establishing himself as one of the most popular and reliable character actors around, with a schedule that doesn't seem to quit, Richard Jenkins has now lined up a key role in Roland Emmerich's upcoming action drama "White House Down." He'll join an ensemble cast led by Channing Tatum as a Secret Service agent defending the president from a terrorist attack (with Jamie Foxx as the Commander In Chief himself), with Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Woods as fellow high-ranking Secret Service agents. Jenkins, meanwhile, will play the Speaker of the House, who trails the VP in the line of succession. The script comes by way of "Zodiac" scribe James Vanderbilt who sold his screenplay for $3 million to Sony earlier this year. [Variety]

Though the Green Arrow comic-book character showed up briefly in “Smallville,” fans looking for any story continuation with the CW's newest series adaptation, “Arrow,” will be sorely disappointed. The show is an entirely revamped affair, going for a more down-to-earth aesthetic and characters, but while the show won't appear on the network until fall, those looking for an early peek will get just that if they pack a bag and head to San Diego next month.
