It's Thankgiving, which means people spend time and money to go see their loved ones, only to get away from them as fast as possible. And always the first to escape from dull holiday festivities, it looks like teens (and Moms who should know better) kept flocking to see Edward and Bella fang bang as "Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1" took the top spot in week number two, taking in $62.3 million over the five day long weekend. However, the franchise is becoming increasingly front-loaded with its biggest second week drop over, hovering somewhere around 76%. Even so, the film should have at least one more solid week in the bank as next weekend is a bizarrely barren with no major release scheduled. However, it will likely be leap-frogged by this weekend's number two movie "The Muppets."

There is, in short order, going to be a family movie blood bath at the box office this holiday weekend, with "Arthur Christmas," "Hugo" and "The Muppets" all arriving in theaters. While all three films certainly deserve merit, "Arthur Christmas," with its surprisingly complex themes and glittery animation, is probably the most unexpected and the least pre-sold (since it's not based on a best-selling book or long-running franchise). But don't let its underdog status fool you: this is big, bright, bristling piece of entertainment and totally deserves your Thanksgiving dollars. We got a chance to speak to "Arthur Christmas" co-writer/director Sarah Smith and co-star Bill Nighy (who plays Grandsanta) about what it was like to be part of a new holiday classic.

Making a truly classic Christmas movie is a feat that few achieve but many try their hand at. In recent years, studios have cynically tried to graft "edgy" material onto all-audiences Christmas approaches, often times involving Vince Vaughn for reasons that remain obscure, and the results are barely watchable trash-heaps like "Fred Claus" and "Four Christmases." The trick is to modernize an archetypal story for current audiences without losing the seasonal sweetness (there's a reason "Elf," for all its mediocrity, is so beloved). Aardman Animation and Sony have attempted to do just that with "Arthur Christmas," a surprisingly rollicking, visually dazzling, and emotionally rich Christmas movie that actually succeeds in its lofty goals of being an ready-made annual classic. It's practically gift wrapped for the occasion.

Christmas has definitely come early this year with a new teaser trailer for "Arthur Christmas," Sony's 3D animated co-production with Aardman. The first teaser definitely got us interested back in December and the new one is equally entertaining. Boasting a talented cast that includes James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, Imelda Staunton and Bill Nighy, the movie should be an enjoyable holiday film for children and adults.
