All the casting news that's fit to print! We reported last week on Dan Stevens attaching himself to the newest of Adam Sandler's periodic serious, grown-up movies (uh, not to be confused with his “Grown Ups” movies); this one's called "The Cobbler" and follows a cobbler (natch) who steps into his clients' lives as he mends their shoes.

For all of the considerable questions raised in “Ender's Game," director Gavin Hood's adaptation of Orson Scott Card's sci-fi novel, they ultimately all revolve around process. The film has numerous steps toward intergalactic war pitting Earth against an alien race and is most engaged when exploring the moral, strategic, and psychological knots at each juncture, only tied to the military teens trained to lead the effort. Those three aspects are troublesome, however: they're hard to depict cinematically, quibbles which have made Card's internally-focused work so meddlesome to adapt. But more importantly, if made the central force of the unfolding drama, they require articulation deeper than what Hood's ambitious but unsatisfying fable provides.

In “Ender’s Game,” Asa Butterfield plays Ender, a bright young boy who’s been handpicked by Colonel Graff (played by Harrison Ford) to save the entire world and human race. No pressure. Colonel Graff is dead set on the boy, much to the hesitation of his colleagues, Mazer (Ben Kingsley) and Major Gwen Anderson (Viola Davis), both of whom believe that the boy is not ready. Are they right or can Ender step up and save the world? You will have to wait and find out a few weeks from now… unless you’ve read the book. If you’ve read the book, there probably won’t be any surprises here. But hey, Harrison Ford is in it! Plus, the kid from “Hugo”! And Ben Kingsley has a giant tattoo on his face! If that still does not pique your interest, perhaps these seven different clips from the film will help.

While "Gravity" is racing into theaters today promising no shortage of sci-fi thrills, genre fans need not worry that it will be their only serving this fall. Next month, "Ender's Game" arrives with another sort of spectacle, though we're pretty sure you won't get a heart attack watching it.

Ender's Game
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" won't be the only film this fall boasting an array of wacky names. The sci-fi blockbuster "Ender's Game" will be bringing folks named Ender, Mazer, Hyrum and Bonzo to tell Orson Scott Card's futuristic tale of kid killers in space (or something) and as yesterday's preview of the final trailer suggested, it's going big or going home.

Ender's Game
Dancing around a controversy spurred by homophobic author Orson Scott Card, and continuing to remain somewhat of a question mark among the remaining blockbusters of the year, it could be argued that "Ender's Game" still has a considerable mountain to climb. But tomorrow will mark the start of the last major push for the movie with the unveiling of the final trailer (which means that you're going to see this spot on repeat in cinemas forever, or at least it will feel like that between now and November).

Ender's Game
Awkward. Lionsgate/Summit Entertainment have taken the young adult sci-fi film "Ender's Game" to Comic-Con to market it to the masses. And the first question to come out of the mouths of audiences? Asking how involved "Ender's Game" author Orson Scott Card is in the making of the movie. Card, has stirred major unwanted controversy around the movie with his bigoted anti-gay comments, something that Lionsgate is doing their best to distance themselves from, and they were probably hoping no on would ask at the gigantic, supposed-to-be light trade show.

t's almost a decade since Scarlett Johansson became a major star thanks to Sofia Coppola's "Lost In Translation," and the actress continues to confound expectations; her diverse pick of roles of late has included a Cameron Crowe rom-com, superhero epic "The Avengers," playing Janet Leigh in "Hitchcock" and, coming up, playing a cannibalistic alien in Jonathan Glazer's "Under The Skin." And now she's taking another curve; she' s going to direct.
