Life After Beth, Aubrey Plaza
In the last decade, left-of-center zombies have become so ubiquitous that we’re bordering on critical mass, with as many spoofs being released as straight-ahead horror renditions. As with anything reaching its cultural saturation point, it’s the singer, not the song, as the results have been all over the spectrum, from the brilliant (“Shaun of the Dead”) to the forgettable (“Warm Bodies”). Despite some fine talent both behind and in front of the camera, “Life After Beth” has trouble distinguishing itself from the army of flesh-eating peers. The film starts promisingly, opening with a foreboding shot of a girl wandering through Griffith Park, scored with ominous guitar squalls courtesy of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, who compose the film’s atmospheric score. As brief an introduction as it may be, it sets the tone for a film much weirder and more interesting than the one that follows.

Life After Beth, Aubrey Plaza
Funny people doing funny things... It's not all gritty, kitchen sink drama at Sundance this year, with some good (supernatural) laughs to be found.

The To Do-List
For those of us who came of age in the '90s it has not been uncommon to notice a certain nostalgia creeping up on you these last few years. At first maybe you were happy to revisit some old songs or movies you hadn't heard/seen in a while but before you knew it, pop culture artifacts you didn't particularly even care for at the time seemed to bring back fond memories of a decade that now seems oh so far away (Gin Blossoms were actually a pretty good band, you guys). The new sex comedy "The To Do List," is set distinctively in the summer of 1993 and is one of the first films to transport us back to the pre-internet age of Coolio and "Clueless." If it seems too soon to start thinking about the '90s as a period piece, consider this: "Dazed and Confused" was set in 1976 and released in 1993 which means that we're now further from 1993 (when "The To Do List" is set) today than we were from the distance in Richard Linklater's stoner, coming-of-age classic. Yes, it's time to be nostalgic about the '90s.

Doing it for the first time is usually an experience that leaves a lasting, lifelong memory—for better or for worse—but what happens when you try to cram a decade's worth of sexual experience into one summer? Well, meet Brandy Klark, who endeavours to cross every "job" off her list and then some in "The To Do List."

The To Do-List
Blowjobs! Handjobs! Pearl Necklace! SEX! Do we have you attention? It's summer, the days are long, the nights are hot and everyone is half naked anyway, so it's the perfect recipe for getting it on. And CBS Films is hoping to tap into those hormonal urges with "The To Do List," the upcoming raunchy sex comedy and now some new looks are here to get you wet.

The To Do List Aubrey Plaza
It isn't often said or appreciated, but it actually takes a bit of bravery and self-confidence for an actress to get up on the big screen and makes themselves sexually awkward, inexperienced and/or unattractive on the big screen. In an industry where looks hold sway and where judgment comes with your morning latte, we have to give some props to Aubrey Plaza for willing to go the distance. But it looks like folks will be happy she did.

If you’re looking for a little humor, romance, and horror in your day, you might want to give actors Michael Cera and Aubrey Plaza four-minutes of your time. Cera is part of a YouTube comedy collective known as JASH, which includes members Sarah Silverman and Tim & Eric and more, and the group has put out quite a number short films and oddball videos in its brief history.

Aubrey Plaza, Johnny Simmons and Donald Glover in The To Do List
What's on your to do list this summer? Maybe get a job, ask that girl or guy out who works at that store downtown and perhaps spend some long weekends with some friends. Either way, we're betting your list isn't quite the same as Brandy's in "The To Do List." Unless handjobs are an essential part of your summer plans....

Someone raised an interesting but kind of depressing point about Pixar recently. Between 1995 and 2009, the peerless animation company produced ten movies, with just one of those being sequel – 1999’s “Toy Story 2.” If all goes as expected, between 2010 and 2015 four of the company’s seven features will have been sequels, the third of which, “Monsters University” (a prequel, technically, but you catch our drift) is set for release in just over two months time.
