First! Once again, the New York Film Critics Circle made filmmakers and studios sweat to get their films screened in time as they position themselves to be the first (official) word on the awards race and augur of things to come ... at least until the National Board Of Review weighs in tomorrow. But for now, it looks like David O. Russell's "American Hustle" is the one to beat over the next couple of months.

While prognosticators like to think they can predict the awards season race weeks and even months away from when the dust settles, there is always a surprise or two that no one would have seen coming. (For example, who would've thought Benh Zeitlin would get a Best Director nomination over Ben Affleck last year?) And so, A24 is hoping a bit of hustling can do some wonders for James Franco.

Oscars, Score, 2013
This week sees the arrival of Disney's "Frozen," the studio's most acclaimed film in years. It's also a serious throwback to the studio's animated musicals of the late 1980s and 1990s, a full-on songfest with multiple numbers of Broadway quality, and that's useful for our purposes, because this week we're going to focus on the musical categories of the Academy Awards.

The Wolf Of Wall Street
There has been a lot of talk surrounding Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf Of Wall Street"—whether or not it would be finished in time, rumors of NC-17 material and of course, the overall length of the movie, etc. Last we heard, it was going clock in at 2 hours 45 minutes, but word from abroad suggests that the runtime has been padded further.

Watch: Angelina Jolie's Emotional Honorary Oscar Acceptance Speech

Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie has had a year that most of us couldn't even conceive, from undergoing a double mastectomy, to starting work on her next directorial effort with "Unbroken" (now shooting in Australia), that seems like more than humanly possible for one person to take on. But on Saturday night at the Governors Awards, the actress/writer/director had yet another reason to mark 2013 as one she'll never forget. Read More »
