"Make the movie you want to make, and go with God. There's nothing else you can really do," Nicolas Winding Refn told us over the phone last week, as he closes out his year with one last run at U.S. press for "Only God Forgives" as it heads to home video. There's little doubt he stuck with that rule in making his second film with Ryan Gosling, a dreamy, vicious revenge saga, heavy on mood and thin on dialogue. The picture polarized critics on the Croisette and gave us plenty to talk about. Qhile Refn's latest was heavily scrutinized, the director himself remained reflective about his second go at Cannes following his Best Director win two years ago for "Drive."

Few filmmakers have quite the crowded dance card that Nicolas Winding Refn boasts. Speaking to The Playlist on the eve of the North American premiere for “Only God Forgives,” Refn seems deeply pleased by having attached himself to so many projects, each one sounding more exciting than the last (particularly the mooted “Valhalla Rising” continuation). However, Refn’s next project is a detour into television, with the series “Barbarella,” which he describes, in typical Refn fashion, as “the ultimate fetish.”

With Nicolas Winding Refn exiting "The Equalizer" with Denzel Washington, and losing bromatic collaborator Ryan Gosling for "Logan's Run," it might seem that the director is suddenly adrift. But in his back pocket is the "Babarella" TV series reboot, which he signed on to last summer, and it seems things are moving foward on that project with a couple of big names coming on board.

While his dream of directing a "Wonder Woman" movie remains just that, it looks like Nicolas Winding Refn will get to exercise his female fantasy hero kicks through another outlet, taking on an equally iconic character.

David O. Russell Confirms Hathaway's Early Talks In 'Silver Linings,' But Nothing Is Set In Stone YetAnne Hathaway has had a pretty good year, all in all. Considering that her last two films before then were the virtually unseen thriller "Passengers" and the rightfully reviled "Bride Wars," memories of her Oscar-nominated turn in "Rachel Getting Married" and her lead in the comedy megahit "The Devil Wears Prada" were beginning to fade. But she's started off the year by being more or less the best thing in the otherwise awful (but, importantly, commercially successful) "Valentine's Day," appeared in the billion-dollar "Alice in Wonderland," and topped it off with an excellent performance in the better-than-you'd-imagine "Love and Other Drugs."
