We're still a little puzzled that Bill Hader isn't a bigger star. The actor's consistently been a highlight of "Saturday Night Live" since he joined the show in 2005, and has stolen the show in films including "Hot Rod," "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "Tropic Thunder," "Adventureland" and "Superbad," but has never broken out to become a lead, at least in live-action (he voiced the lead in the excellent 2009 animation "Cloudy With Chance Of Meatballs," and has both "Cloudy 2" and DreamWorks' "Me And My Shadow" on the way).

Screenwriters Tom Lennon and Robert Ben Garant are no strangers to the studio-pitched franchise, as their alternately tumultuous forays with “Herbie: Fully Loaded” and “Night at the Museum” have exhibited. It's a testament then to their combined versatility that they are able to switch gears abruptly, having recently finished production on their co-directed horror comedy “Hell Baby,” and as that film is being tweaked in post, one-half of the duo has decided to carry on directing with a familiar vibe to their past projects.

We sort of totally forgot about this, but a "Baywatch" movie has been brewing for a few years now. Way back in 2009 Jeremy Garelick -- who did an uncredited rewrite on Todd Phillips' "The Hangover" and also has a story credit on "The Break-Up" -- was hired to write and direct a big screen adaptation of the hit '90s TV show. About a year later, Garelick left and Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka — the 2009 Black List writers behind the upcoming David Gordon Green/Jonah Hill adventure comedy "The Sitter" -- were brought on pen the script. And then we sort of stopped paying attention, but at some point Peter Tolan ("Rescue Me," "Analyze That") was hired and lo and behold he's even turned in a script.
