While Disney currently has plans to reimagine their own "Beauty And The Beast," it's probably safe to say that Christophe Gans -- the guy behind "Brotherhood Of The Wolf" and "Silent Hill" -- will have a more interesting take. Now in post-production, Pathé International took to the movie market at the recently wrapped Cannes Film Festival and brought with them a first look that positively glows with romance, or cannibalism.

Well, this occurrence was probably inevitable, but given the $150 million worldwide haul last weekend for "Oz The Great And Powerful," it likely made some decisions in the boardroom a lot easier. So, following "Alice In Wonderland" and 'Oz,' with the Angelina Jolie starring "Maleficent" on the way, and "Cinderella" looking to get in front of cameras this fall (though still searching for a princess), Disney is now tackling a live action (and probably 3D) reimagining of "Beauty And The Beast." Obviously.

Since it was first announced at the beginning of the year, we haven't really heard all that much about Christoph Gans' "Beauty and the Beast." But the mere fact that the helmer behind "Silent Hill" and "Brotherhood of the Wolf" is taking on the classic fairy tale with none other that Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux in the lead roles intrigues us. And now, with filming gearing up, a few more interesting tidbits about the movie have emerged.

In Ursula Meier’s “Sister,” the talented Lea Seydoux plays Louise, a complex maternal figure to a young boy named Simon (Kacey Mottet Klein). Though most know the beautiful, wayward Louise as Simon's older sister, she regularly leaves him alone without a parent, finding affection in the arms of a man and leaving the boy to make ends meet hustling stolen skiing goods. Seydoux had hesitations about playing such an upsetting character, and as she told us in an interview this week, she initially found the character, “Cruel. She’s completely selfish.”

Once upon a time there existed a cinematic landscape where not every feature-length fairy tale movie was drawn from a classic story, and the descriptor “fractured fairy tale” didn’t just mean gross-out humor and a Scottish-accented Mike Myers playing a big green ogre. While some of those films have certainly succeeded (this writer has a soft spot for the first “Shrek”), the kind of tale that the likes of the Brothers Grimm would collect in their oeuvre of beloved folklore was often of the darker-hued variety – pitting characters in bleak struggles that would see them rise from the ashes as better individuals for it in the end. Yes, the stories were simple, but they also served as a basis for many of the storytelling tropes that are used today – and may have influenced a few of our own moral compasses, with the fables acting as parables for life's lessons.

Colin Firth is set to play famed English playwright Noel Coward, in the Willy Holtzman-penned project, “Mad Dogs And Englishmen,” about Coward’s eventful two week-stay at The Desert Inn in Las Vegas in 1995. Although there’s still no director attached, this seems like a great role for the actor to sink his teeth in, as Coward was famous for what Time called “a sense of personal style, a combination of cheek and chic, pose and poise.” So we’ll be definitely be looking forward to this project in the future.

Right now, it's slightly under four years since we last saw a Guillermo Del Toro-directed movie in theaters. By the time his next film, the massive-scale monster movie "Pacific Rim," hits theaters, it'll be close to five. Of course, it barely feels like he's been away: last year's "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" had his name all over it, while he nearly helmed "The Hobbit" before Peter Jackson took the reins back, and will maintain a writing credit on the film, while his consulting work at DreamWorks Animation, and busy media presence has kept him in the headlines all this time.

French actress Léa Seydoux has been bringing her Gallic brand of beauty and skill to Hollywood films for a few years now. But while she was reportedly on one of the shortlists to play Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" she has yet to lead a U.S.-made film, and instead has been slowly increasing her confidence in English-speaking roles by working in smaller parts for well-respected directors like Ridley Scott, Quentin Tarantino and Woody Allen.

As you already know, fairy tale films are the new hot thing. We've already had "Red Riding Hood" test the waters, and this year we'll see "Mirror Mirror" and "Snow White and the Huntsman," followed by "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" and "Jack The Giant Killer" in 2013. While those are all interesting for various reasons, this latest announcement has shot a new fairy tale movie right to the top of our list.
