After a bit of rocky start which saw Mark Romanek leave, with Kenneth Branagh dropping in to to replace him, Disney is solidering ahead with "Cinderella." Cate Blanchett has stayed on board as the evil stepmother during the tumult that has also seen a range of names including Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Alicia Vikander and Gabriella Wilde flirt with the title role, with none locking to place. And it seems Disney is continuing the hunt.

“Damages” star and “Bridesmaids” queen bee Rose Byrne is in negotiations for two major movie projects – Warner Bros.’s “This is Where I Leave You” and Universal’s “Townies.” In the Shawn Levy-directed and Jonathan Tropper-written “This is Where I Leave You,” the Aussie actress joins an ensemble cast that currently includes Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver (HBO’s “Girls”), Kathryn Hahn, and Jane Fonda.

For a film that’s ostensibly set to the vibrant pulse of early ‘60s rock 'n' roll and blues -- The Rolling Stones, the early Beatles, Bo Diddley, etc. -- David Chase’s directorial debut, “Not Fade Away,” sure has a curious, circuitous and eventually long-winded tempo. Set in 1964, just a few months after the Kennedy assassination with Vietnam, the Civil Rights movement and the sexual revolution in the air, “The Sopranos” creator’s ambitions are decidedly simpler and much more small scale.

While he may draw the critical scorn of fanboys everywhere with even the mention of his name, and rightfully so after penning the screenplays for the weak “Batman Forever” and disastrous “Batman & Robin,” screenwriter Akiva Goldsman still holds a lot of clout in Hollywood. That’s what one earns when they write behemoth blockbusters that span multiple genres, such as “I Am Legend” or “A Beautiful Mind,” as well as help usher in franchises with the likes of “The Da Vinci Code.” It was reported all the way back in February of 2011 that Goldsman would be lensing his directorial debut “Winter’s Tale," but at the beginning of this month it looked as if Goldsman called in some favors to his famous friends after the production hit some budgetary speed bumps, landing “I Am Legend” star Will Smith and “A Beautiful Mind” actor Russell Crowe in supporting roles. About $20 million was shaved off the budget and the project gained some much needed steam, so it pays to have friends in high places.

Akiva Goldsman Looking At Tom Hiddleston & Benjamin Walker To Lead Directorial Debut 'Winter's Tale'

First up is "Winter's Tale," set to mark the big-screen directorial debut of Akiva Goldsman, the Oscar-winning writer of "A Beautiful Mind," and smack-deserving writer of "Batman & Robin" and "The Da Vinci Code." Announced back in February, the film sees Goldsman tackle Mark Helprin's much-praised 1983 novel of the same name, which follows an orphan on the run from a criminal gang, who breaks into a New York mansion, only to fall in love with a dying woman, with reincarnation, apocalypse, rainbow bridges and a flying white horse all cropping up as well. It's something of a passion project for the screenwriter, who's been attached since 2009, and he spent the weekend performing some chemistry reads with some young talent for the lead roles.

Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have been talking about teaming up for an adaptation of 1960s vampire soap "Dark Shadows" for years now, but for a while, it was unclear if the always-busy megastar would find room in his schedule for the film. But if "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Alice in Wonderland" taught us anything in the last few years, it's that if the pair are attached to a VFX-heavy, production design-reliant project that plays right into their comfort zones, it'll happen sooner or later. And indeed, "Dark Shadows" begins production in the U.K. this week.
