There are few criminals that have captivated Hollywood quite like Pablo Escobar. Those "Entourage" dudes had a whole arc about making a movie about the crime lord, while folks like Oliver Stone, Antoine Fuqua, Brad Furman and Joe Carnahan have all been attached/tried to mount features over the years (the latter told us he still wants to get "Killing Pablo" off the ground). But if this bit of news plays out, it looks like some European filmmakers will get the jump with a pretty envious actor in the lead. Though it should be noted -- this is not a biopic, exactly.

It would be a news piece about a Terrence Malick movie if you didn't have to decipher the clues first. But alas, his untitled movie that isn't "Knight of Cups" continues to shoot and seems to have revealed yet another cast member, so just bear with us as we run down the evidence.

French filmmaker Arnaud Desplechin doesn't exactly work quickly, and it's coming on five years since 2008's excellent "A Christmas Tale," his longest gap between films yet, but the good news is that not only is shooting underway on his next effort, some early pics have emerged as well.

There are no superheroes, no toy brands, no gross-out comedy and no spandex in Oliver Stone's summer thriller "Savages." But perhaps that's what makes it such an interesting prospect, and while we'll find out how it all plays in just a couple of weeks, a generous red band clip from the film has dropped online to give us another tease.

After a string of biopics, a documentary, and a decent “Wall Street” sequel, it's clear Oliver Stone is ready to return to his special, sun-soaked universe -- one where the violent atmosphere infuses every frame and its characters' swaggering personalities aren't too far behind. His newest film “Savages” has more than confirmed this with its exaggerated trailer, and now six new clips have arrived before the film opens just around the corner.

While Universal's decision to move Oliver Stone's "Savages" from a fall release date to a prime summer slot on the same weekend that "The Amazing Spider-Man" hits theaters may seem like a strange choice, there's a certain logic to it from a counter-programming perspective. And moreover, it seems to be in the oddball spirit of the director himself, who usually doesn't miss an opportunity to provoke and challenge when given half the chance. And while we'll have to wait and see if the gamble will pay off, with just a couple weeks to go the studio has dropped a generous helping of new images of the film, giving us a chance to see what Stone is pulling together for his latest, pulpier effort.

In what could be seen as a sort of seasonal and spiritual companion piece to Olivier Assayas’ 2008 film “Summer Hours,” director Arnaud Desplechin’s film “A Christmas Tale” quietly dazzled with its warm infusion of family dynamics and melancholic themes of aging and forgiveness. Sadly, not much has been heard from Desplechin since that film’s release, but recently news of his latest project has materialized, along with main casting of another actor out of the spotlight for some time as well.

So far, set photos have revealed the involvement Wes Bentley, Neon Indian frontman Alan Palomo, The Cult and Matthew McConaughey on the pair of new Terrence Malick films, "Knight Of Cups" and the project formerly known as "Lawless." Now, thanks again to the trigger-happy paps, another piece of casting has possibly been revealed with rising British actress Imogen Poots spotted shooting with the film's star Christian Bale.

So, it seems Benicio Del Toro and Cameron Diaz are determined to work together. A couple of years ago they were attached to star in a pretty fucking dreadful-sounding rom-com "An Ex To Grind," which didn't really get going, and now they're attached to a no-less-promising "Agent: Century 21."

Benicio Del Toro, oh where have you been? After his impressive performance in Steven Soderbergh's "Che," Del Toro appeared in the botched monster movie revival "The Wolfman" and has kind of disappeared for a while. He popped in a brief cameo in Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere," directed a segment of the forthcoming omnibus "7 Days In Havana" and this year he's set to return in what looks like a helluva role in Oliver Stone's "Savages."
