Have you started making your New Year's Eve plans? It's only 27 days away, as the clock keeps ticking down on 2012. Cahiers Du Cinema, Sight & Sound and John Waters have already dropped their top ten lists, the New York Film Critics Circle handed out the first batch of awards, and even though there are still movies to come, we can now sit back and wax nostalgic on the year in cinema.

This morning saw the New York Film Critic's Circle fumble all day with Twitter, but finally announce their awards for 2012's best, marking the first critics' group to bestow their honors. Sometimes bucking against the tide ("The Accidental Tourist" and "Far From Heaven" are among past Best Feature winners), sometimes proving good precursors to the Academy (they matched Best Picture, Director, Actress and Foreign Language feature last year), it's generally deemed to be the first major precursor of awards season.

So far, the best of 2012 lists have been dominated by high falutin' Cahiers Du Cinema and Sight & Sound, so leave it to the always eclectic director John Waters to provide the first truly diverse and totally unpredictable top ten of the year, all with his trademark wit.

It feels like only yesterday that we were talking about the best films of 2011, and yet here we are, nearly at the end of June, and we've seen pretty much everything that the first half of the year has to offer. So with the mid-point of 2012 nearly upon us, we thought we'd look over the best films we've seen in theaters over the last six months.
