Big Hero 6, skip
Unclear what “Big Hero 6” is other than an upcoming Disney animated film? Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, “Big Hero 6” is an action-packed comedy-adventure with comic-book like visuals and action. So it’s the first real Marvel/Disney collaboration—synergy—but it still sounds very much like a Disney project first and foremost. One can only assume that more corporate collaborations are to come. Imagine a day when Disney redoes the “Iron Man” franchise only in animated form. It could totally happen.

Big Hero 6
Marvel has already conquered the multiplex, made their movie into television, and are getting ready to invade Netflix, so what's the next move for the comics giant? Animation. It's a surprise it's taken this long considering that comic books seem ready made for the format, but as we already know, Marvel carefully thinks each move before making it. And so it'll be interesting to see if Disney Animation can not only continue the run of success for Marvel, but also bring something fresh to the genre.

Big Hero 6
While all eyes are on "Guardians Of The Galaxy" as the risky, unknown Marvel property being given the big screen treatment, let's not forget about "Big Hero 6." The property is coming this fall via Disney Animation, who have gone all out for a title that likely only the most dedicated of comics fans know about. But the first images of the two lead characters show that it could have a lot of crossover appeal.

Currently retired from public life, whatever that means, Shia LaBeouf is either Hollywood's greatest enigma or best prankster. Or both. At any rate, after owning the Berlin Film Festival press conference for Lars von Trier's "Nymphomaniac," it looked like Shia was just gonna keep on truckin', working, making weird and possibly plagiarized art, and generally continue to upend whatever notions of decorum are affixed to young actors. But it seems he is taking a step back for a moment.

The big news out of last weekend's D23 Expo in Anaheim, a kind of Comic-Con for Disney, was the lack of news relating to the studio's highly anticipated "Star Wars: Episode VII." There wasn't any kind of announcement—no release date or subtitle or confirmation of actors who are scheduled to return (and those who will be sitting this one out). In fact, the silence around 'Star Wars' was so deafening that many lost sight of just how much the studio divulged about its upcoming slate of animated features. Not only did they map out the movies that the studio will be delivering through 2016, but they also showcased what will be the pattern for Disney animated features for years and years to come. Only nobody noticed because they were too busy looking for that Death Star.

If you're wondering what a geek-gasm looks like, you should probably hit your social media networks right now. Marvel, having already conquered the multiplex and set to unleash their power on the small screen with "Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.," are now seeing what the animated world can do for them. First announced at Comic-Con last year, Disney Animation is tackling "Big Hero 6," another Marvel superteam of heroes, though not as well known as The Avengers. But that will likely not matter one iota if this footage is anything go by.

It looks like Marvel and Kevin Feige are going to have a lot of questions to answer in a few weeks at Comic-Con. Fresh off news circulating that "Guardians Of The Galaxy" is being geared up for a 2014 release, another "Ant-Man" update has arrived, and, more exciting for fans, news that Walt Disney Animation is set to tackle its first animated movie.
