Bill Condon Out, Forest Whitaker Now Producing Forever-Developing Richard Pryor Biopic

The saga of the constantly-in-development Richard Pryor biopic could fill pages upon pages but we'll try and keep it brief. At one time called "Is It Something I Said?," Martin Scorsese was linked way back in the day while Pryor was still alive and over the years it continued to kick around with Eddie Murphy at one point attached (though he recently said his involvement never really got past initial meetings), and a couple of years ago, it seemed like it was really going to happen with Adam Sandler producing (seriously), Bill Condon directing and Marlon Wayans taking the lead role.

We're still over a month away from the 2013 Oscars, but consider the 2014 season open, courtesy of DreamWorks. The company (who are leading the field with "Lincoln" this year) have been prepping their WikiLeaks movie, directed by "Gods and Monsters" and "Twilight: Breaking Dawn" helmer Bill Condon, for some time, but it was slightly unclear when it would be hitting theaters. But with filming now underway, they've put their cards on the table, revealing a title, an awards-season release date, and an impressive supporting cast.

The star of Paul Verhoeven's undervalued "Black Book," Carice Van Houten, was tipped for big things after that film bowed in 2006. The actress picked up Hollywood roles in "Valkyrie" and "Repo Men" but neither role was particularly rewarding, and she had a quiet few years after. But the Dutch star (who has a side career in the music industry) picked up a prominent role as sorceress Melisandre in HBO's "Game Of Thrones" (she'll be returning to the show for the third season when it debuts in March), and now she's landed a role in another big Hollywood picture.

As we put together our list of Breakout Performances Of 2012, Alicia Vikander was someone who turned heads around The Playlist office. The actress put in two great turns this year, first as Caroline, who becomes embroiled in an illicit romance in "A Royal Affair." She next appeared as Kitty in Joe Wright's lush "Anna Karenina," and as we wrote about Vikander's performance, "Your heart breaks for Anna but you fall in love with Kitty." Well, it hasn't taken long for Hollywood to make use of her talent.

The final installment of Stephenie Meyers' 'Twilight Saga' has hit the screen with an audible, if Italian-accented "Squee!" here in its packed hormonal World Premiere at the Rome Film Festival. Destined to make a jillion dollars in its first six minutes of release, the film is already such a juggernaut that voicing an opinion on whether it's any good is a little like examining the fenderwork on the 20-wheeler that's bearing down on you at 100mph: it doesn't matter, because either way, you're going to be flattened. But hardy fools that we Playlisters are, we're going to damn well tell you what we think anyway: "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" is as thrilling, scary and swooningly romantic as this series gets. But it's still dire.

Even though Julian Assange has gone from notorious hacker to exiled cause celebre (hell, Lady Gaga of all people paid him a visit at the Ecuadorean embassy in London), his saga remains fascinating and important. Which means Hollywood has come calling. And while there are a handful of competing features and documentaries out there, DreamWorks looks to be out of the gate first as their untitled project begins to take shape.
