The project has been gestating for a number of years, but it looks like things are really moving forward with “Love & Mercy,” the biopic on Brian Wilson. This past January, Paul Dano signed on to play Wilson as a young man. Now, John Cusack is in discussions to play the older version of the legendary Beach Boys frontman.

At this point, Paul Dano has accomplished a lot in his still-young career. He's logged time with auteurs like Paul Thomas Anderson and Ang Lee, starred in strong indie comedies like "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Ruby Sparks," gone the blockbuster route with "Cowboys & Aliens" and "Knight And Day," and last year, he dipped his toe into heady sci-fi with Rian Johnson's "Looper." From to drama to romance to comedy, he's done it all (except maybe horror), but now he's tasked with the tremendous responsibility of playing one of music history's most beloved and influential writers and performers.

Terrence Malick's long-awaited “The Tree of Life,” opening today in select cities, is the kind of movie that is designed to be talked about, chewed on, and poured over. It’s a movie that demands you grasp at the unknowable, is challenging and gorgeous in some very deep and profound levels and asks big questions about who we are and where we came from, not just on a human level but on a grander, “how does life exist” scale. (On the same token, its complete lack of an identifiable narrative/dramatic structure and emotional aloofness might drive you batty.) Looking into “The Tree of Life” (and beyond), though, you’ll find even more tantalizing questions, possibilities, and dead-ends. The fact that most of us are still as intrigued, befuddled, and mystified by the film after we’ve seen it is a testament to its singular, oddball power. So we now present to you 10 things we’ve learned about 'Tree of Life' that maybe you never knew. This feature is probably best enjoyed after you’ve seen the film, but we give proper warning when discussing plot (if that’s the right word) specifics.

Brad Pitt Still Narrating 'Voyage Of Time' But It Has Been Pushed Back For Now2011 is a good time to be a Terrence Malick fan. The notoriously reclusive director doesn't talk to press so for the most part, before this year, getting any info on "The Tree Of Life" or anything else he was working on required patience, digging and a bit of teeth pulling. But with the "The Tree Of Life" beginning its rollout this weekend, the producers of the film are talking to press on his behalf and in addition to chatting about the film are also offering up morsels on some other projects Malick is currently cooking up. As you already know, last year he shot a new untitled film -- referred to as "The Burial" in some cirlces -- starring Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem, Barry Pepper and Jessica Chastain. Details have been scarce, and while some bits and pieces leaked last fall, as we guessed, it'll probably be nothing like whatever those scrapings of info suggested.

With the Cannes premiere and Palme d'Or win now come and gone and the roll out for "The Tree Of Life" beginning this Friday, the long wait for Terrence Malick's latest is finally over. But that doesn't mean the project isn't without its mysteries. As Malick fans know, at some point in the film's gestation, plans were floated for a companion documentary entitled "Voyage Of Time" that would screen in IMAX.

EXCLUSIVE: Back last summer, it was revealed that Sean Penn was in talks to star in "Genius," an adaptation of the National Book Award-winning non-fiction work "Max Perkins: Editor of Genius" by A. Scott Berg. Written by John Logan ("Gladiator") (the script made the Black List back in 2007), the film would find Penn playing the legendary Perkins, a Scribner's editor who worked with giants like F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway and Thomas Wolfe. And it appears one of the hottest rising young actors is now taking a look at the gestating film.
