Bjork: Biophilia Live
For better or worse, we do approach any new project from impish Icelandic enchantress Björk with an expectation of weird. And it’s an expectation that her Biophilia album and concert tour, of which this film is a record, clearly delivered on. Prologued by a David Attenborough voiceover, it's really an exhilarating, sometimes mystifying extended riff on one major theme: we are on the brink of a revolution that exists at the creative nexus of nature, music and technology.

The other day a friend told us that they would be interested in Lady Gaga if her music was anywhere near as ambitious as her outrageous clothing. Certainly, for someone like Björk -- who famously made a statement with her swan dress at the Oscars and released an album of ambitious acapella jams -- a lack of adventurousness in both clothing and songwriting, is not an issue.

While their developing 3D project has unfortunately gone the way of the dodo bird, longtime collaborators director Michel Gondry and Icelandic songbird Bjork have still found something to work on together, the video for the debut single of her forthcoming album, "Crystalline."

"Biophilia," the upcoming album by Icelandic singer Bjork, is easily her most ambitious project to date. The nature and science-based album will be fleshed out with a suite of iPad apps for each song on the album and the singer plans a two year tour around the world with a stage show that includes a number of unique instruments including a gameleste and bass playing pendulum. While with each album, Bjork has continued to push the edges of her work way out there, she retains a strong core of regular collaborators while reaching out to new folks each time around. "Biophilia" is no different and to help kick things off, she has enlisted the help of a director who has made some of the best music videos of her career.
