Philip Seymour Hoffman To Star In John Slattery's Directorial Debut, Cate Blanchett Teams With David Mamet For 'Blackbird'

Incoming casting news, fresh from the French Riviera: first off, Philip Seymour Hoffman has signed on for a new film, so we can all get our regular dose of rumpled magnificence. “God's Pocket” will be directed by John Slattery, who you know as “Mad Men”'s silver fox Roger Sterling but who is making the move to directing (having helmed several excellent episodes of the series in which he stars), adapting a Pete Dexter novel about Mickey (Hoffman), whose attempts to move on after the suspicious, and not unwelcome, death of his unstable stepson are frustrated by a local reporter with a hunch.

Alex Kurtzman is best known as one half of the blockbuster-scripting duo with Roberto Orci ("Transformers," "Star Trek"), but last year, he ventured out solo making his directorial debut with a family dramedy known as "Welcome To People." Starring Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde and Michelle Pfeiffer, the project is one we're keen to check out, but we'll now have to look for a different title on box office screens with the DreamWorks pic now going by "People Like Us."

Yep, studios are hustling their films earlier than ever these days and after the first look at "The Hunger Games" was unveiled before shooting has even started, we now have looks at one film currently in front cameras and another which only recently wrapped.

Sissy Spacek & Kris Kristofferson Round Out The CastVariety reports that Kate Mara and Treat Williams, who both featured in Danny Boyle's "127 Hours" but didn't share any screen time, are set to reunite and actually appear at the same time on screen in the upcoming crime thriller "Blackbird" starring Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde.
