With The Weinstein Company being handed a double dose of bad news for Oscar season with their contenders "Blue Valentine" and "The King's Speech" being handed NC-17 and R ratings, respectively (the former apparently for a scene where Ryan Gosling performs oral sex on Michelle Williams, the latter for a sequence where Colin Firth stutters a bunch of f-bombs), the indie arm isn't taking this lying down.

“I just can’t wait to stand over your shoulder while you change the rating.”Ever since "Blue Valentine" got nailed with a baffling NC-17 rating, things have been uncharacteristically quiet from the Weinstein camp. And now we know why. Harvey Weinstein has been busy hiring lawyers (in what we hope inspires the best "Law & Order: Los Angeles" episode ever).

In case you forgot, "Blue Valentine," the prickly relationship drama starring Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling, was recently slapped with an NC-17 rating by the MPAA much to the confusion of, well, everyone. While the MPAA keeps the reasons for their decisions secret, most believe it is due to a scene where the troubled couple, played by Williams and Gosling, have an argument in the midst of having sex. Yes, it's a very uncomfortable and bracing scene but certainly nothing risqué about it. Regardless, the notoriously sex-afraid, violence-happy MPAA got their knickers in a twist and gave the hardest rating they could against the film.
