The Counselor
"Star Wars: Episode 7" isn't the only franchise around town working hard to keep details under wraps. "Bond 24" is gearing up to shoot this summer, and with reports last week that Chiwetel Ejiofor was being considered for a villain role, now another big star has come into the casting mix.

12 Years A Slave
Coming off an outstanding performance in “12 Years A Slave,” one that earned him an Academy Award nomination, there will be no shortage of work for actor Chiwetel Ejiofor. He’s already met with J.J. Abrams, possibly about “Star Wars: Episode VII,” (though potentially about any number of Bad Robot projects) and now he’s being tipped as the main villain in the next James Bond movie.

“No comment.” That was screenwriter John Logan's frequent response to Empire, who recently caught up with the Bond scribe, and prodded him for details about the follow-up to the billion dollar-busting "Skyfall." Will it be two-parts as once rumored (and then denied by Daniel Craig)? How about other double-0 agents? Logan isn't saying, but he did share a tease about the overall shape of the story of "Bond 24," which is nearing the finish line.

"Skyfall" set the Bond bar incredibly high, with the film becoming the first billion dollar box office earner in the history of the franchise, and it looks like one of the key ingredients to its success is moving on. We'll let Kristopher Tapley let you know himself via the following tweet:

Skyfall Sam Mendes Daniel Craig Ben Whishaw
For fucks sakes, finally. After declaring the prospect of directing a "Skyfall" followup as making him "physically ill," and then being reported as "likely" returning and possibly even directing two movies in the franchise, Sam Mendes scuttled all of that last month by saying he was still thinking about it. Though, we'd guess part of that was code for, "I just made the first Bond movie to cross $1 billion worldwide, so my agent is making sure I get real paid for this next movie, or fuck this." Well, whatever happened, it's now for real.

Skyfall Sam Mendes Daniel Craig Ben Whishaw
While it seemed that the matter was finally settled last month, it looks we’re still playing our favorite game: trying to guess who will direct “Bond 24.” Though it seemed that Sam Mendes finally came to peace with heading back into the world of Bond, it appears that a final decision still hasn’t been reached.

With Javier Bardem giving James Bond trouble as the baddie Silva in "Skyfall," could producers be keeping it in the family for the Bond girl for "Bond 24"? If rumors coming out of the UK are accurate that could be the case, but we'll see how it plays out.

Geez, it's been quite the topsy turvy week for the Bond franchise. Mere hours after names like Nicolas Winding Refn, Ang Lee, Tom Hooper, David Yates and Shane Black were tossed around as considerations for the director's chair of "Bond 24," Sam Mendes went ahead and re-upped for the job himself. It was a surprising turn of the events, especially given that the "Skyfall" helmer said back in the spring that the prospect of directing another Bond movie made him "physically ill." Well, it looks like he's found a cure.

The tantalizing possibilities: Ang Lee, Tom Hooper, David Yates, Shane Black, Nicolas Winding Refn were all evidently being considered for the next James Bond movie (though one manager for one filmmaker we won't name called the claim "funny"; Christopher Nolan's name also popped up.) But before we can even consider a "Bond 24" directed by one of these auteurs -- a 3D version from Lee, a NSFW one from Refn and a close-up obsessed iteration from Tom Hooper -- word comes down that the much-beloved Sam Mendes who directed "Skyfall" -- the highest grossing film in the Bond canon by a wide margin -- is now interested in taking the plunge once again.

There's rumors and then there's James Bond rumors, and lately they've been even more frenzied than usual. Mostly that's down to the news that "informal talks" have taken place between Christopher Nolan and producers to helm an upcoming entry in the franchise, and today brings more speculation from a couple different sources.
