Jeremy Renner, Hawkeye
Jeremy Renner is going to be very busy for the next year. The actor has started shooting “Mission: Impossible 5” with Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie (he’s still part of the team even though it wasn’t properly announced) and next summer he’ll be shooting the fifth, as-yet-untitled ‘Bourne’ movie for a summer 2016 release.

Producer Frank Marshall Shoots Down Rumors Of Matt Damon In 'Bourne 5'

Bourne 5
Perhaps it was inevitable, and maybe too good to be true. Latino Review has been on a hot streak of movie scoops of late, but perhaps their latest just got stymied. The rumor, as of late last night, was that the 5th Untitled Bourne Film, now delayed until summer 2016, was held over because Matt Damon would be returning to the fold as Jason Bourne to cross paths with new ‘Bourne’ franchise actor Jeremy Renner. Longtime Producer Frank Marshall has said in the past having Renner and Damon in the same ‘Bourne’ film would be his ultimate dream, but apparently that’s not happening for the next movie.

The Bourne Ultimatum Matt Damon
Here we go again. It has been two years since the Jeremy Renner-starring "The Bourne Legacy," and seven years since "The Bourne Ultimatum," and the question the entire time is: will Matt Damon return to the series? And the actor, time and again, has explained the criteria that would need to be met for that to happen. “I’ve always been open to it if Paul Greengrass is the director and … we’ve just never been able to come up with a story,” he said this spring, once more. "It felt like such a good way to end it the last time, but having said that I love that character… and I’d love to see what happened to him." So, could it finally be happening?

The Bourne Legacy, Renner,
We literally were just talking about the fate of this one at the water cooler this morning. For most tentpoles, on average, you don’t want less than a year from shooting to release. Smart studios try to add in a year and a half for safety , some studios like 20th Century Fox tend to rush things (see “X-Men: The Last Stand,” and “X-Men: First Class”) and some studios just wisely push off the date when they’re not ready. Marvel’s “Ant-Man” was recently cutting it close which is why they were in full-speed mode to find a new director to shoot this summer and have the film meet their target release date of summer 2015. Had they not found Peyton Reed as a director, or any replacement, that movie surely would have been pushed to 2016.

Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Philip Seymour Hoffman
There's television and then there's "Louie." Comedian Louis C.K. has brought an auteur approach to his show, one that has consistently challenged the traditional notions of thirty-minute television, and a program that has seen him bring in a wealth of guest stars, not always playing cameos, but carefully selected for their contributions. From David Lynch to Bob Saget to Chloe Sevigny, C.K. has kept audiences on their toes, but there's one guest spot we'll sadly never get to see.

The Bourne Legacy
As we just noted the other day, the ‘Bourne’ franchisedirection is moving in a very different direction from its original pedigree. Not only are Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass long gone, but so is the series writing architect Tony Gilroy. “The Bourne Legacy” offshoot starring Jeremy Renner wasn’t quite the immense hit that Universal wanted and so the studio went another way.

Bourne Ultimatum
Never say never, never say die. If you’re keeping score like we have—or feel obligated to do so—you’ll know Matt Damon keeps playing with our heart and toying with our emotions. The actor has essentially said, Jason Bourne is done, the character has finished his arc, and he’s even talked smack about the screenwriter Tony Gilroy and then quickly retracted it.

paul greengrass, bourne
You hold out hope because, well, that’s what you do (and maybe because you weren’t so down with chems). Maybe, maybe maybe, Paul Greengrass will make another Jason ‘Bourne’ movie and then Matt Damon—who has repeatedly said he will not make one without Greengrass—will be back on board, right? ‘Bourne’ producer Frank Marshall has even said his "dream" would be to have a ‘Bourne’ film that stars both Jeremy Renner and Damon.

Bourne Legacy
Well, if there was any doubt about negotiations or deal points, squash them now: “Fast & Furious 6” helmer Justin Lin is 100% confirmed to direct the fifth and currently untitled installment in the ‘Bourne’ franchise.

Bourne 5, Justin Lin
Well, you gotta at least give credit where credit is due. With both Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon bouncing from the franchise after "The Bourne Ultimatum," Universal went to series guru Tony Gilroy to write and direct "The Bourne Legacy." And the result was a brainier, less frenetic, slightly more thoughtful approach. It didn't quite work. At least not with audiences who turned out to see Jeremy Renner as the newly controlled agent, but not quite in the numbers a franchise four movies in should expect. So now they're calling in the big guns.
