Little Accidents Lofland
It’s no surprise that “Little Accidents,” which played at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival tonight for press, was a Sundance premiere: as a directorial debut from a promising new U.S.-based director, with a roster of reliable indie actors plus the added gloss of the higher-profile Banks in the mix, set against the backdrop of a hardscrabble mining town, led by a child protagonist and promising a minutely observed morality play, it ticks a whole warehouse full of “Sundance movie” boxes. That doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing, but in the case of Sara Colangelo’s first film, it is certainly a very familiar one.

With "Terminator 5" aka "Terminator: Genesis" now rolling in earnest and headed to the smorgasbord of sequels coming in 2015, the project is taking shape. So who are the filmmakers looking for next? Kyle Reese.

Reese Witherspoon
After a stint working on indie movies with Jeff Nichols' "Mud" opening earlier this year, Atom Egoyan's "The Devil's Knot" hitting the festival circuit, and Paul Thomas Anderson's "Inherent Vice" probably landing sometime next year, the actress is going back to making movies that will pay the bills. She's headed to Disney to make the fairy tale comedy, "Happily Ever After."

The Sundance Institute’s Screenwriters and Directors Labs have played an instrumental part in guiding all kinds of talent over the past years. And if you need any evidence, look no further than this weekend's "Ain't Them Bodies Saints," which was developed up in Park City, before shooting last year. And now, another movie is getting going, boasting stars, indie spirit and a Sundance badge of honor. And thus it'll be one we keep an eye on....

How quickly a studio (or a trade?) change their minds. Not even a week, it was reported that a trio of indie types -- Brady Corbet, Dane DeHaan and Alden Ehrenreich -- were leading the pack to take over James Franco's old part of Harry Osborne, best pal to Peter Parker, and son of Green Goblin Norman Osborne, in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," the sequel to this summer's tepidly-received superhero reboot. But it seems like either The Hollywood Reporter were acting on old info, or Marc Webb and Sony executives had a major rethink over the weekend, as the same trade now reports that the three previous names are out, and four new, and quite different actors, are now testing for the role.

By the time Terrence Malick finishes with "Knight Of Cups" and his currently filming, untitled love-triangle movie, pretty much every actor, musician and sideshow attraction will have logged time in front of his cameras. The director seems to love hanging out with famous people almost as much as he loves cutting them out of his movies, and now the oddest set photo you'll see all year reveals another bizarro addition to his cast.

Steven Soderbergh has been never less than adventurous over his career, and so there is something quite fitting about the director taking on the story of the popular and flamboyant performer Liberace for his final film before he steps away from the movie world and into a hiatus. Michael Douglas and Matt Damon have long been attached in the lead roles, and with the film gearing up to shoot this summer, Soderbergh has begun assembling his cast with three more names boarding the film.
