The culinary arts and filmmaking don't seem to go together that often. You get the occasional great picture set in the restaurant world -- "Big Night" and "Ratatouille" spring to mind -- but more often than not, you end up with films more like "No Reservations" when you try to put cooks on screen. But now, chefs are suddenly the new, uh, Snow White, with two big names gearing up rival foodie-related pictures, to the extent that legal issues may be brewing over their titles.

Talk about snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Only a few weeks back, things were looking grim for the much-buzzed-about western "Jane Got a Gun." The film, starring and produced by Natalie Portman, had a Black List-ed script and a top-notch cast, but a few weeks after Michael Fassbender left the project, director Lynne Ramsay bailed just as production was meant to get underway, with actor Jude Law, who was to play the villain, following hot on her heels.

Last week, we started to warm up for the Oscars by taking a look at some of the best of the early roles of the supporting actor and actress nominees, and the early films of the directing nominees. A few months ago, word surfaced that freshly minted Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper was hoping to reteam with his director on the upcoming "The Place Beyond The Pines" (our favorite film of last year's TIFF), Derek Cianfrance, on a project known as "Chef." In development for years, the script by "Eastern Promises" writer Steven Knight, follows a drug-addled chef who moves his restaurant from Paris to London in order to capture a three-star Michelin rating and once upon a time, it was set to team the unlikely combination of director David Fincher and Keanu Reeves.

Harvey Weinstein has three big Oscar heavyweights debuting across the next few months, all of which he has high hopes for. We've now seen Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master," which hits theaters from next week, and it certainly seems to have the right stuff. Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" only wrapped about a month ago, and as such, we'd be very surprised if the film was ready to be seen all that much earlier than its December 25th release date. And in between is David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook," an offbeat romantic-comedy-drama that stars Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver and Chris Tucker.

The fact that Charlie Bronson is the name of Dax Shepherd’s protagonist in the Shepherd-co-directed, Shepherd-written and Shepherd-starring “Hit and Run” tells you everything you need to know about the film. Particularly considering the film’s Bronson, a former getaway driver in deep trouble with a colorful gang of criminals, isn’t even using his real name. No, Bronson is the name he chose to gift himself upon entering witness protection, feeling his own name was unsatisfactorily macho. It’s also a reference upon a reference upon a reference -- he’s chosen to name himself after the British criminal who renamed himself Charles Bronson, whom we’ve already seen in the film “Bronson.”

While J. Blakeson's underrated feature debut "The Disappearance Of Alice Creed" didn't exactly blow up the box office, it did find its way in front of the right people in Hollywood, and they soon came knocking. Over at Warner Bros., he's already been tapped to direct "The Imitation Game," a hot script that has seen hot directors like David Yates, Ralph Fiennes and Bryan Singer among those being sought for the gig. And now, he's got another big project in the works, and it looks like it will roll first, with a pretty decent name attached.

The Wolfpack is (almost) back. Following the over $580 million worldwide succes of the R-rated comedy sequel, Warner Bros. are very eager to get Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms back for the third and final installment. And they are willnig to pay big bucks to make it happen.

You're gonna have a whole lotta Bradley Cooper coming at you in the near future. The actor, who had two big hits this year with "Limitless" and "The Hangover Part II," has spent the rest of 2011 cashing in on the goodwill those projects created, with no less than three movies going in front of cameras.
