Financing In Place, As Film Gets Fast-Tracked At DreamWorksThe summer movie season is upon us and it's easy to forget that there are movies being developed at the major studios are aren't sequels, based on a comic or toy or spun-off a previous film or television show. In the works for years, the long-gestating space film by Doug Liman -- now titled "Luna" -- has been inching forward in fits and starts for the past while. Originally with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead, who later left the project, it sputtered back to life this past spring when a wealth of names were said to be contending for the open role including Andrew Garfield, Emile Hirsch and Chris Pine. And even longer list of actresses were tipped as possibilities for the female lead with Rosario Dawson, Megan Fox, Rachel McAdams, Eva Mendes, Zoe Saldana and Olivia Wilde all getting mentioned. And then -- we didn't hear much else. Well, the movie now looks pretty much certain to be Liman's next project and more info has landed.

If there was any doubt before that Bradley Cooper is a fully-fledged movie star, the first few months of 2011 have wiped that away: he took an underdog genre picture "Limitless," sold almost entirely on his name, to an impressive gross of nearly $150 million worldwide, while "The Hangover Part II" overcame its poisonous reviews to make nearly that much in only a week of release in the U.S. alone. And, while we're not convinced of his charms just yet (he comes across as a little smug), Cooper's certainly made some interesting choices with his stardom.

Review: 'The Hangover Part II' Is A Lazy, Unpleasant & Unfunny Mess

Unlike most of the summer movies, which seem to be thundering into theaters without any real anticipation beyond the cacophonous marketing hype, "The Hangover Part II" seems to be a film people are unreasonably excited for. The 2009 original, directed by Todd Phillips, has metamorphosed from simply being the biggest R-rated comedy of all time (and winner of a Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy Golden Globe) to being a movie that average filmgoers consider an instant "classic" of the genre and a staple of any fun-lover's DVD collection. (It's also the biggest selling comedy DVD of all time. Jesus.) The prospect of another movie, again starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis, coming this quickly, has been tantalizing for cinemagoers and something that is getting people really, really jazzed, which makes it somewhat harder to report that "The Hangover Part II" is one of the laziest, unself-aware and most unpleasant Hollywood products we've seen all year. And we just saw the fourth "Pirates Of The Caribbean" movie a couple of weeks ago.

Word had gone quiet for a few months on "The Words," a Black List script that picked up Bradley Cooper as its star, with Jeremy Irons in negotiations, back in February. With Cooper proving himself a bona-fide movie star with the surprise success of "Limitless," and attaching himself to everything from "The Crow" and "Paradise Lost" to, more excitingly, Derek Cianfrance's "Blue Valentine" follow-up "Place Beyond The Pines," we'd wondered if the project was still on the cards for the actor.

We have to admit, we were a little worried. After talk surfaced during the awards season of Ryan Gosling and his "Blue Valentine" director Derek Cianfrance reteaming on a new project called "The Place Beyond The Pines" that was set to shoot this summer, word went a bit quiet. But not only is the project alive and kicking the seemingly ubiquitous Bradley Cooper has been offered a role.

Unaware that the concept seems to be an Onion headline come to life, Bradley Cooper is eyeing the role of Lucifer in a big budget 3D adaptation of "Paradise Lost" according to Variety. Take a second, and let that sink in. A big budget, 3D adaptation of "Paradise Lost." With Bradley Cooper. Got it? Ok, great. Great pains are being made to stress that negotiations are not yet underway, but that apparently Cooper is chomping at the bit for the chance to star in what deserves to be the biggest cinematic punchline of the next couple of years.

You sure know how to fuck with us Hollywood. Just a few days after “28 Weeks Later” helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo came aboard to direct the long in the works reboot or whatever of "The Crow" -- that looks like it will be dropping the Nick Cave script (what the hell) -- an actor is now ready to get his dark eyeliner going as Eric Draven. And it's kind of baffling.
