While the SXSW lineup was stacked this year, no film bowled over The Playlist team in Austin like "Bridesmaids." One of our seven favorite films from the festival, we called it "hilarious and heartfelt," adding that it “even touches upon some Mike Leigh-like class issues in its surprisingly weighty story.” Not too bad at all. And now, an international trailer for the film has arrived and once again, it delivers some big laughs.

Soundtrack Arrives Early On May 10, Score By Michael AndrewsHighly anticipated to some of us (this writer) and old awesome news to the Playlist folks that were at SXSW last month, Paul Feig's "Bridesmaids" starring Kristen Wiig looks and sounds awesome. Our SXSW reviewer called it "hilarious and heartfelt," and a lot of internal chatter has been saying it's the best Judd Apatow-produced film since "Knocked Up" in its balance of rude comedy, heart and even (yes), moments of social realism. No really, in our 7 Best Films of SXSW recap we wrote, "the film has a heart and soul, and even touches upon some Mike Leigh-like class issues in its surprisingly weighty story."

Once again, Austin, Texas and the SXSW Film Festival kicked our ass this year. One week of great weather, tex-mex, bbq, a little booze, a little music (Big Krit ruled) and a looooot of movies. For the third year in a row The Playlist team descended down on the coolest little town in Texas and were witness to a panoply of movies, documentaries, sci-fi pictures, disturbing horror films, deep and/or genre-tinged dramas (the latter seemed to be a trend), rock docs, feel-good dramedies, filthy comedies and more.

While most people probably know Jon Hamm from “Mad Men,” (which this writer believes is currently the best show on TV), many know he’s also been quietly building a career in comedy. In addition to three excellent stints hosting “Saturday Night Live,” he’s also had a recurring role on “30 Rock” and has a supporting role in the upcoming comedy “Bridesmaids,” which our team just saw at SXSW and called “hilarious and heartfelt." Fans might also know he’s known to occasionally make low-key appearances at the UCB Theatre as well as on various comedy podcasts. Basically, he’s the real deal.

"Bridesmaids" unveiled at SXSW as an announced work-in-progress screening, However, as director Paul Feig introduced the film, revealed that the picture was only missing a couple of minor sound edits and color corrections, but was not going to change in any significant way and that, except a couple of sound cues here and there, it was pretty much the film that would be hitting theaters on May 13th.

Fingers crossed, it's looking like the summer of 2011 will be incredibly strong for comedy. Not only have we got the return of the biggest grossing R-rated comedy of all time with "The Hangover 2," but there's also Cameron Diaz and Jason Segal in Jake Kasdan's "Bad Teacher"; Will Gluck's follow-up to the excellent "Easy A," "Friends With Benefits"; Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in "Crazy Stupid Love"; Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman swapping bodies in "The Change-Up"; David Gordon Green and Jonah Hill teaming on "The Sitter" and Ruben Fleischer's "30 Minutes or Less," with Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari and Danny McBride.

While outrageous comedies have generally been the domain for boys, the crew from "Bridesmaids" looks to upset that balance. The first trailer for the film has arrived and gives us some hearty laughs from its talented roster.

While "The Hangover 2" is arriving in May and yes, is something we're looking forward to, is it sacrilege to admit that we're a bit more excited for the Judd Apatow-produced, Paul Feig-directed comedy, "Bridesmaids" coming out a couple of weeks earlier? With the talent involved, we certainly don't think so.
