While starrier films like Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom," Jacques Audiard's "Rust And Bone," David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis," Andrew Dominik's "Killing Them Softly" and John Hillcoat's "Lawless" got the most attention when the Cannes Film Festival unveiled their lineup this week -- and not without good reason -- more discerning cinephiles also found reason to celebrate as well. "Post Tenebras Lux," the long-awaited new film from Mexican director Carlos Reygadas, was confirmed to be playing In Competition.

Early this morning brought one of the most anticipated moments in the cinephile's calendar: the announcement of the line-up of this year's installment of the Cannes Film Festival. And while it reads in places like a parody of a Cannes line-up (Alain Resnais! Abbas Kiarostami! Michael Haneke! Ken Loach!) there's no doubt that we're excited about all of those films, as well as new ones from David Cronenberg, Jacques Audiard and many, many others.

It seems that this year at the Cannes Film Festival, it's going to be the young blood earning the attention of the paparazzi. Oh sure, Brad Pitt will be there, but how many pictures of Brad Pitt on the red carpet do you need? Snap-happy cameramen will surely be saving their zoom lenses for Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Zac Efron who will all be featuring in films unspooling at the Palais. And that's a sentence we thought we'd never actually type.

Cinephiles have unwrapped the presents put under the Cannes Film Festival Christmas tree this morning, with organizers unveiling their impressive lineup for the 2012 festivities. And this is the gift that will keep on giving. Over the next four weeks in the lead up to the fest, an array of stills and footage will be released for the films headed to the south of France, and things are off to a good start already. The brand new trailer for David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" arrived a few hours before it was officially confirmed for Cannes, and now a couple of fresh images for some In Competition movies are out of the gate.

Still the biggest and most prestigious film festival in the world, despite fierce competition, Cannes is one of the major dates in the film lover's calendar. And more so than ever this year, there's been a great deal of speculation as to what the films in competition might be. We knew that Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom" was opening the festival, and we knew, as of yesterday, that "Therese D," the last film from director Claude Miller, starring Audrey Tautou, would close it.

This morning we learned that the restored version of Sergio Leone's "Once Upon A Time In America" will get a special screening, and now the organizers have announced what film will be the last to unspool.
