You might have heard a minor geek uproar over the interwebs yesterday. It seems someone has dared to say that if they had a choice, they'd prefer not to feature in any more Marvel movies. And that man is Hugo Weaving.

In the now sprawling world of Marvel movies, keeping track of the narrative so everything flows and connects must be a nightmare. The studio template has required that each film drop a little tease after the credits for another movie they have in the pipeline, even if it isn't written, shot or cast yet. And this leads to some narrative hula-hoops and workarounds. They've mostly gotten around them, no matter how awkward the manuvering might be, but talking with The Huffington Post, Kevin Feige reveals that they nearly boxed themselves in with The Hulk and "The Avengers."

Guessing who Marvel are going to pick to direct their movies is increasingly becoming a fool's errand. We could see why Jon Favreau and Louis Leterrier were picked to helm "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk." But since that opening salvo, they've mostly shied away from A-list names and those experienced with action, with names like Kenneth Branagh, Joss Whedon and Shane Black being picked out to helm "Thor," "The Avengers" and "Iron Man 3."

That "Captain America: The First Avenger" was getting a sequel was inevitable. The film successfully brought the comic hero to the big screen in a rousing and better than expected tentpole, and with Steve Rogers landing in contemporary Manhattan at the end of the film and heading into "The Avengers," there is still more to come.

Also Reveals That Steve Rogers Will Likely Just Appear In 'Captain America' & 'Avengers' Films, No Other Marvel Movie CameosMarvel's rather revolutionary roll of the dice on their big screen movie adaptations has found them creating a giant universe of connected films, where superheroes and characters cross-pollinate the films that are part of a singular fabric. In order to make this happen, the comic and movie studio giant has become known for signing up key players with contracts for multiple films -- Samuel L. Jackson famously has nine movies he's obliged to appear in -- allowing for lots of Easter eggs and surprise cameos. But while Jackson is A consistent presence in the Marvel world, and fans buzzed when Robert Downey Jr. made a brief appearance as Tony Stark in “The Incredible Hulk,” don't expect to see Chris Evans logging time in anything but "Captain America" or "The Avengers" movies.

Update: Well, the tickets have been tallied and it's not quite the box office deadlock that was reported over the weekend. "Cowboys & Aliens" have emerged victorious squeaking out a 800K lead over "The Smurfs," taking in $36.4 million over the blue boys $35.6 million.

Marvel is doing the right thing with their superhero productions. They wisely didn’t break the bank after “Iron Man” did a little under $100 million in its opening weekend, instead opting for future adventures within their universe for around the same cost every time. Even with “The Avengers,” said to be the big kahuna in Marvel’s strategy, they kept costs down thanks to cheap multi-film contracts and economic micromanaging.

Ohhhh, Christopher Evans. Is Chris Evans 2011's Crush of the Year? Edgar Wright has a crush on him. GQ has a crush on him. And you know I wave my Chris Evans Crush Flag every day, readers. I mean, I suffered through THE SECOND FANTASTIC FOUR MOVIE FOR HIM. That is how I show my love. I watched "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" in the theaters. Also, I saw "The Losers" in theaters and greatly enjoyed it. Yes, I know that this is The Playlist, but I will admit that here in that forum. I will also admit this: I had a dream last night that I was flying around in a space shuttle above LA with Chris Evans and January Jones. So yes, you could say I am looking forward to "Captain America" A LITTLE BIT. But this weekend brings us a Sophie's Choice: everyone's other universal crush Justin Timberlake has a new movie in theaters! And "Bad Teacher" is still playing! Timberlake in glasses! 2 much Timberlake 2 choose. And he possibly shows his bum in "Friends With Benefits." Even the straight men want to see that! Guys, what are we going to do?! Blah blah there are also some other movies playing if you hate beautiful men.

Well-paced, classical in nature, and featuring a completely different setting -- the 1940s during WWII which makes it a big tonal departure from other Marvel Films -- "Captain America: The First Avenger," is a relatively muscular and sturdy super-hero tale which is sometimes facile, but effective enough to meet most of its goals and aims.
