Carol
With filming on Todd Haynes' "Carol" having wrapped at the end of April, the big question is when we'll get to see the film. Will the director manage to have it all finished in time for the fall festival circuit, or will it be held for next year so the filmmaker can take as much time as needed to craft something special? Either way, we can't wait for the movie, Haynes' first since 2007's "I'm Not There" (though one can't forget his excellent 2011 HBO miniseries "Mildred Pierce").

Brie Larson,21 Jump Street
An array of casting news has filtered down today, so let's just get to it. First up, Brie Larson has signed up to star in the adaptation of Emma Donoghue's critically acclaimed, best-selling novel "Room." Lenny Abrahamson, who broke out with "What Richard Did" and has the already hotly buzzed "Frank" on the way, will direct this one about "a woman kidnapped as a teenager who has been held captive for years in a tiny room where she lives with her 5-year-old son Jack. To the boy, Room is the only home he’s ever known."

Cate Blanchett, The Dig, Susanne Bier
Susanne Bier doesn't stop. Already in post-production on "A Second Chance" starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (first look here), and with "Serena" forever dangling over her head as that completed but still somewhat shelved Bradley Cooper/Jennifer Lawrence joint, the director is already plowing ahead on new a movie, one that is aiming to shoot this fall, with a pretty big star attached.

You'll have to jog your memory a bit, but way back in the fall of 2012, it was announced that Philip Seymour Hoffman would be following his feature directorial debut "Jack Goes Boating" with "Ezekiel Moss," a period-set ghost story. And then nothing much was heard from it. But today the project got a kick in the pants with the addition of two big stars.

Although we have broadened our horizons somewhat, the intersection of music and film is something still very much important to us. To that end, we were very excited to hear news that two of our favorite composers would be tackling new projects.

Good things come to those who wait, they say, and certainly we've been patient about "Carol." The project was first announced over a year ago with an excellent pair of leads in Cate Blanchett and Mia Wasikowska, with John Crowley ("Boy A," "Closed Circuit") directing. The stakes were raised further when Todd Haynes replaced Crowley in the director's chair earlier this spring. And even though production is still a bit of a way off, it looks like there will be a change in the topline duo.

It's been six years since "Velvet Goldmine" and "Far From Heaven" helmer Todd Haynes last had a film in theaters -- the uneven, but intermittently transcendent Bob Dylan picture "I'm Not There." Haynes has been busy in the meantime, helming the awesome, Emmy-laden miniseries "Mildred Pierce," as well as an episode of "Enlightened," but we've missed him on the big screen, and so we're excited by Screen Daily's news that Haynes will direct a new film called "Carol."

In the days before Andrew Garfield was Peter Parker or Eduardo Saverin , the actor made a name for himself as a blue collar worker trying to hide a dark past in John Crowley's excellent debut "Boy A.". Years later, the actor is now on the brink of stardom but Brit helmer Crowley, a stage veteran behind the likes of "The Pillowman" and Hugh Jackman/Daniel Craig Broadway hit "A Steady Rain," as well as the Michael Caine-starring "Is Anybody There" hasn't quite skyrocketed in the same way. However he's currently shooting a tantalizing-sounding thriller starring Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall, and he's now set to team two major talents for literary adaptation that's more than a little promising
