Of all the remakes, reboots, and reimaginings in the works, the one we have the least animosity towards is probably “Boys Don’t Cry” director Kimberly Peirce’s upcoming remake of “Carrie.” Sure, Brian De Palma already turned author Stephen King’s twisted tale – of a girl with telekinetic powers who is abused by her own fundamentalist mother and her high school peers, all leading to one horrifying night at prom – into a classic film, but this new version shows promise. Peirce has lined up some great talent in “Hugo” lead Chloe Grace Moretz for the role of Carrie, and the always excellent Julianne Moore taking over the role of her mother Margaret White. Now it appears that Moretz is looking to put even more distance between the upcoming adaptation and De Palma's 1976 movie.

"Arrested Development" scene-stealer Judy Greer is adding another string to her bow, joining Kimberley Peirce's remake of Brian De Palma horror classic "Carrie." The actress will take on the role known simply as "The Gym Teacher," which we're presuming is the role of Miss Collins in the original, the empathetic teacher who looks out for Carrie and has an instrumental part in the film's climax at the prom.

With a release date slated last week, the wheels are now firmly in motion on the Kimberly Peirce's "Carrie" remake starring Chloe Moretz. With the lead actress now locked in, the task is now on hand to find someone to play the poor girl's deranged mother, and a name that has already been bandied about seems to be taking a more firm shape.

Magazines doing photo spreads recreating scenes from iconic movies is nothing new. Vanity Fair seems to do it a couple times a year, and it was at the tail end of 2011 when the New York Times Magazine got in on the act enlisting a wealth of stars for a big awards season shoot that included, among others, Rooney Mara dressing up as Alex from "A Clockwork Orange." Now, "Glee" and "American Horror Story" creator Ryan Murphy is joining in, recruiting the leading ladies from his TV projects to participate in a horror-themed shoot for Elle.

Well, whether you like it or not, the "Carrie" remake is happening, but it's hard to deny the talent being assembled is pretty compelling. "Boys Don't Cry" helmer Kimberly Peirce is getting behind the camera, with Chloe Moretz playing the bullied high school girl who unleashes her telekinetic powers after she gets pushed too far. And while there is no denying that Brian De Palma's film is a stone cold classic, we're curious to see what direction this iteration will take.

Over the weekend we suggested that with Haley Bennett and Chloe Moretz both being considered for the lead in developing "Carrie" remake it would come down to going with an unknown versus star power. And it looks like thel latter has won out.

The unnecessary-but-it's-happening-anyway remake of "Carrie" over at MGM continues to move forward. At the beginning of the year, a random, but kind of inspired decision was made to have Kimberly Peirce sit in the director's chair, and now it seems a gaggle of young Hollywood talent is circling the title role.

Well, as far as decisions regarding beloved films being callously remade, it could be a lot worse than MGM and Screen Gems tapping "Boys Don't Cry" director Kimberly Peirce for their big screen redux of Stephen King's telekenetic horror show "Carrie." The 1976 original film, as we all know, was directed by Brian De Palma and is, more or less (the "less" is that sped-up scene where the guys are trying on the tuxes), a masterpiece.
