The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
A few years ago, Hollywood was all about board games, but with the disaster that was Peter Berg’s “Battleship” and the one-two punch that was “Twilight” and “The Hunger Games,” studios have now pinned their hopes on the YA-market. This morning sees two new images, one from an already successful franchise and the other from one of the many hopefuls looking to hit big.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
And the night of non-stop teasers and clips ends with the grandaddy and most substantial of them all: "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." And even though it doesn't open for another seven months, Lionsgate clearly feels like they have a big winner on their hands...

When we last saw Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), they had survived the perilous "The Hunger Games" and now they're on a victory lap tour or some such thing. Surely things aren't gonna stay that celebratory and happy in the "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" sequel for long. In fact, in the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' YA novels, Katniss and Peta are dethroned from their respective victory riches and put back into the arena for the most climatic and menacing of the Hunger Games, known as the "Quarter Quell" (whatever) that means. Directed by Francis Lawrence (using IMAX cameras in some segments), a new teasing teaser trailer (which, let's face it, shows next to nothing) has arrived.

Though we’re a staggering eight months away from its release, Lionsgate has seen fit to start the promotion machine a little early for the newest installment in everyone’s favorite kids-killing-other-kids franchise. Continuing the trend studios have championed over the past couple of years, seven new character/portrait posters have arrived online that show the solemn-faced cast in increasingly ridiculous costumes.

The dystopian future of "The Hunger Games" has lots of things, including wild fashion, death matches between adolescents and apparently, a still Photoshop-obsessed culture hell-bent on airbrushing their celebrities into plastic-looking pod people.

The hunt will begin soon. Everyone's favorite humans-killing-each-other-for-sport franchise returns to the big screen (much) later this year, but that hasn't stopped the folks at Lionsgate from reminding you that it's coming. The marketing machine for "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" continues today with a couple more bits and pieces.

Well, you don't put food on the table with Oscar movies and arthouse fare. We love Philip Seymour Hoffman, and he's great in "The Master" and deserving of his Oscar nomination this morning, but we totally understand why the dude wants to hang around in the districts. It's good pay, probably not as taxing as acting opposite Joaquin Phoenix and the wigs are glorious.

Strap in, because eleven months of marketing begins now. With "The Hunger Games" earning over $680 million worldwide, launching Jennifer Lawrence into the stratosphere and cementing a new tween brand, Lionsgate want those numbers to keep going up. Which is why with a release date set for November, they're starting to get the word out now on the sequel.

Farewell, "Twilight." After four years, and five movies, there are (until the inevitable reboot/spin-off/extra sequel) no longer any movies in the super-popular Stephenie Meyer-penned vampire franchise to look forward to/dread. The final movie, "Breaking Dawn Pt. 2" (our review here) is in theaters, doing the usual blockbuster numbers, but for the near future at least, that's it.
