Though born in New Zealand, Andrew Dominik, the director of this week's "Killing Them Softly," moved to Australia at the age of 2, and was raised there. And around thirty years later, he provided a firecracker up the arse of the nation's film industry by directing "Chopper," a biopic of colorful criminal Chopper Read that made Eric Bana a global star, and firmly launched Dominik as a filmmaker to watch.

After a fairly successful premieres on the festival scene throughout the year and the unveiling of a beautiful trailer, Cate Shortland's "Lore" is developing momentum ahead of its Australian theatrical release. We now have two stunning new clips from the film, which has also been annouced as Australia's entry for consideration for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.

And now, eight years later, she returns with belated follow-up effort "Lore," another tale of a young woman not only navigating her burgeoning sexuality, but the emotional and moral fallout of post World War II Germany, all while she battles to keep her family together and alive as power in the country changes hands.

One of the lesser-known films included in yesterday's TIFF line up announcement, that we are no less excited for, is Australian helmer Cate Shortland's sophomore directorial effort, "Lore." An adaptation of Rachel Seiffert's novella "The Dark Room," the German-language post-WWII road film stars newcomer Saskia Rosendahl as the daughter of an SS officer who must take her four siblings on a 900km journey across war-ravaged Germany to the safety of their grandparents' residence.

Sam Worthington To Co-Produce & Possibly Star In Miniseries About Battle Of Gallipoli

Sam Worthington has kinda fallen off the map after breaking out in "Avatar," with a few indies ("The Debt," "Man On A Ledge") and the whole 'Clash Of The Titans' thing not exactly raising his profile -- though the latter probably bought him a new house or two. He does have a '70s surfing-drama, "Drift," on the way, but it looks like he's now getting behind a project closer to home, signing up to co-produce and possibly star in a cable miniseries depicting the WWI Battle Of Gallipoli that teamed Australia, New Zealand and British forces to capture Istanbul.
