While the rehabilitation of Channing Tatum is not complete and hasn't even started in the eyes of the public, 2011 will in some ways begin the campaign by his PR team and agents to transform the actor from mindless "G.I. Joe" bo-hunk to semi-serious actor.

As "21 Jump Street" keeps moving forward toward its production start next year with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in the lead roles, the biggest wishlist hopeful/question surrounding the film is if Johnny Depp would make a cameo appearance in the film version of the television show that helped launch his career. Turns out, he'd be game but no one has asked him. Yet.

A Career Move Now Known As 'Doing A Wahlberg'It feels like only a few weeks since we were expressing bafflement at the success of the career of Keanu-esque golem Channing Tatum, who's already worked with Michael Mann, Steven Soderbergh and Kevin Macdonald, and been praised by the likes of Nicolas Winding Refn. So we won't dwell on it here. Instead, we'd like to praise the guy for a second, because, like fellow heartthrobs Joseph Gordon-Levitt and James Franco, you can certainly say that it's hard to predict the actor's next move.

Of all the baffling phenomenon in the cinema world in 2010, Channing Tatum is perhaps the one that is the most puzzling to us. We're sure he's a nice guy. And there must be some kind of talent in there, as he's been cast by the likes of Michael Mann (giving a 15-second performance in a bad wig and getting shot in the back in "Public Enemies"), Steven Soderbergh, in "Haywire," and Kevin Macdonald, in the upcoming "The Eagle," and Nicolas Winding Refn called him a "very good young actor" after their aborted work together on "The Dying of the Light." But we're damned if we can see any evidence in his performances so far.
