Machete Kills
Robert Rodriguez isn't one for false pleasantries: if you didn't like "Machete," you really won't think much of "Machete Kills," and he's okay with that. This sequel to the 2010 actioner seems to exist mostly for his hardcore base and as a favor for good friend Danny Trejo, who plays the pockmarked, laconic hero of the title. Not even original distributor Fox wanted any part of the continued adventures of the Ex-Federale who never met a fireball he couldn't fly through with the grace of an eagle and the fierceness of a tiger, as this adventure comes courtesy of the good folks at Open Road. But this is no course correction: anyone who has ever seen a Rodriguez film, or has seen his career evolve (devolve?) into the bare essentials of camp exploitation, knows what to expect.

Machete Kills,
"Machete Kills" continues its onslaught of marketing, but is it really doing anything to stoke excitement at this point? Either you're down with Sofia Vergara shooting bullets from her breasts or not, but either way, perhaps some of you on the fence might be convinced by this latest effort.

So, are we still laughing with/at Charlie Sheen aka Carlos Estevez? We suppose some people still find some kind of ironic delight in the party-loving actor playing the President in "Machete Kills," but even this 30-second promo spot is more than enough for us. (Ha ha, jokes about weed and Twitter).

Machete Kills
If you think things shooting from boobs and women getting punched in the vagina is totally irreverent and edgy, and having Charlie Sheen actually say the words "Machete Kills" is some sort of knowing genius, then you're probably a better audience for this movie than we are.

Machete Kills
Director Robert Rodriguez is one of those guys who is perfectly capable of making a movie in good taste, but he refuses to do so with every fiber of his being (even his movies for little kids play like some psychedelic voyage into the fourth dimension). Case in point: the new poster for "Machete Kills," the follow-up to his 2010 feature "Machete," which was based on a fake trailer Rodriguez created for his double-feature with Quentin Tarantino, "Grindhouse" (an experience Tarantino barely seems to acknowledge). This poster has everything: a triple-bladed sword, Michelle Rodriguez rocking an eye-patch, grade-A slimeballs Charlie Sheen and Mel Gibson looking downright stoic, Lady Gaga in an old timey bathing suit, and lots and lots of fire. When Danny Trejo is the least outrageous thing on the poster, you can understand the level of insanity on display. Somewhere, Photoshop has quietly hung itself. Read on to see the poster in all of its glory, plus the first look at Mel Gibson's villainous bad guy and even more outrageous photos.

Machete Kills, Michelle & Robert Rodriguez
Here's a break from the onslaught of festival talk, previews and chatter with some good old fashioned B-movie mayhem. "Machete Kills" is coming with blood, boobs, babes and bullets and a few more peeks at the film have arrived.

This Friday, theatrical audiences can take “A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charlies Swan III.” Starring Charlie Sheen as the titular self-destructive graphic designer, the film is a comedic fantasia about his various alcohol-fueled fantasies and dreams, but it also finds time to showcase best friend and standup comedian Kirby, as played by an acerbic Jason Schwartzman. And while Schwartzman is now a veteran of several movie sets, it’s hard to beat the amount of fun he had building Kirby for Roman Coppola’s second film.

Roman Coppola may only be on his second directorial feature, but as a music video and commercials director, and as a writer and frequent Wes Anderson collaborator -- not to mention handling the second unit on various films from his famous family members -- he has certainly amassed a wealth of filmic experience. All of which he brings to bear on "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III." Destined to be a crowd-pleaser because of its many celebrity cameos, quirky and apropos Liam Hayes music, and lovingly detailed 70s-influenced stylization, the film affords many glossy, knowing pleasures, and we found ourselves really wanting to love it. But that deeper level of engagement just didn't kick in for us for two main reasons: the lack of a strong narrative through line and the lack of dimensionality to the central titular character. The film delivers on its title, but it turns out we need more than just a glimpse.

At first, many were surprised when Roman Coppola chose Charlie Sheen to star in his long-awaited sophomore feature "A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III." The actor was coming off of his infamous meltdown and was largely uninsureable, but what some folks may not know is that the pair have been friends since childhood, first meeting on the set of "Apocalypse Now" (directed by Roman's Dad, and starring Charlie's father). And the project was one Coppola had been brewing for a long time, spurred by his own relationship troubles which he shared with Sheen.

Listen, it's pretty much a wasteland at the box office this weekend. The less said about "A Haunted House" the better, while "Gangster Squad" is just plain disappointing (you'd be better off watching these classic gangster flicks instead). Granted, "Zero Dark Thirty" is going wide, but if you'd rather avoid the crowds, there are options if you're just staying in. Roman Coppola's "A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III" is now on VOD, and if you need to know what it's all about, Charlie Sheen is here to tell you.
