This Friday, theatrical audiences can take “A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charlies Swan III.” Starring Charlie Sheen as the titular self-destructive graphic designer, the film is a comedic fantasia about his various alcohol-fueled fantasies and dreams, but it also finds time to showcase best friend and standup comedian Kirby, as played by an acerbic Jason Schwartzman. And while Schwartzman is now a veteran of several movie sets, it’s hard to beat the amount of fun he had building Kirby for Roman Coppola’s second film.

Roman Coppola may only be on his second directorial feature, but as a music video and commercials director, and as a writer and frequent Wes Anderson collaborator -- not to mention handling the second unit on various films from his famous family members -- he has certainly amassed a wealth of filmic experience. All of which he brings to bear on "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III." Destined to be a crowd-pleaser because of its many celebrity cameos, quirky and apropos Liam Hayes music, and lovingly detailed 70s-influenced stylization, the film affords many glossy, knowing pleasures, and we found ourselves really wanting to love it. But that deeper level of engagement just didn't kick in for us for two main reasons: the lack of a strong narrative through line and the lack of dimensionality to the central titular character. The film delivers on its title, but it turns out we need more than just a glimpse.

At first, many were surprised when Roman Coppola chose Charlie Sheen to star in his long-awaited sophomore feature "A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III." The actor was coming off of his infamous meltdown and was largely uninsureable, but what some folks may not know is that the pair have been friends since childhood, first meeting on the set of "Apocalypse Now" (directed by Roman's Dad, and starring Charlie's father). And the project was one Coppola had been brewing for a long time, spurred by his own relationship troubles which he shared with Sheen.

Listen, it's pretty much a wasteland at the box office this weekend. The less said about "A Haunted House" the better, while "Gangster Squad" is just plain disappointing (you'd be better off watching these classic gangster flicks instead). Granted, "Zero Dark Thirty" is going wide, but if you'd rather avoid the crowds, there are options if you're just staying in. Roman Coppola's "A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III" is now on VOD, and if you need to know what it's all about, Charlie Sheen is here to tell you.

This is what a tax write-off looks like folks. While the "Scary Movie" franchise to date has been mind-bogglingly successful, with the last entry earning $90 million at the box office, for this latest installment (without series lead Anna Faris) it seems the Weinsteins have lost all interest is producing another hit, and mostly just want to keep the brand going. Cheap, featuring a bunch of no names along with cameos from the likes of Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan and Katt Williams who will be using the paycheques to pay any past or future lawyers fees, the new trailer for "Scary Movie 5" shows how low the bar the go.

Are you ready to tumble down into the mind of Charles Swan? Self-obsessed, selfish, a bit of trainwreck...undoubtedly there will be many making the Sheen/Swan connection, but if anything, the first trailer for "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III" firmly establishes that this is very much a Roman Coppola movie.

Renaissance man Roman Coppola hasn't directed a feature-length movie since the highly underrated "CQ" in 2001, so it's with eager anticipation we look forward to his latest, "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III." The director may not have helmed a feature in eleven years, but he's been busy, producing his sister Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere," co-writing Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom" and "The Darjeeling Limited," and shooting second-unit photography for both these filmmakers and his father Francis Ford Coppola (not to mention shooting tons of great music videos in the interim too).

In the rotating cycle of raging showbiz personas, Charlie Sheen has outshone Mel Gibson and Alec Baldwin by not only shouting incoherently at things, but also expressing himself to the attention of 4.53 million viewers. After pulling in those numbers -- the largest audience for a primetime sitcom ever (round of applause) -- FX's “Anger Management” has become the network's newest ratings darling, and they've reacted accordingly with a massive extension for the next few years.
