It can be difficult to shift from animation to live-action direction; the processes are very different, and even an accomplished animation helmer can sometimes be undone once they're faced with cameras, actors and the breakneck schedule of a feature film shoot, as opposed to the multi-year process that produces a feature cartoon. Some have managed it, Tim Burton being the most obvious example (at first, anyway...) and Pixar dons Brad Bird and Andrew Stanton are both hoping to make the leap in the next few months. But it's got to be even harder to go from working in graphic novels, to animation, to live-action, but that's been the path for Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud in the last few years.

For their first film, "Persepolis," Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi could not have asked for a better reception, with both critics and audiences falling for the animated adaptation of the latter's graphic novel, culminating in a Best Animated Feature Oscar nomination for the picture. It's been four years but the duo is back, this time with a live action film, and it looks like if anything, the fantasy elements are at a higher pitch this time around.

It has been four years since Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi's "Persepolis" -- an adaptation of the latter's acclaimed graphic novel -- charmed and moved audiences everywhere and edged it's way into the Oscar race, sharing a Best Animated Feature nomination alongside "Ratatouille" and "Surf's Up" (a rare feat for a non-studio film, rarer still for a foreign language film). Well, the duo is back, once again adapting a graphic novel by Satrapi and for their sophomore effort they've dropped their pens and are helming their first live action feature.
