Financing In Place, As Film Gets Fast-Tracked At DreamWorksThe summer movie season is upon us and it's easy to forget that there are movies being developed at the major studios are aren't sequels, based on a comic or toy or spun-off a previous film or television show. In the works for years, the long-gestating space film by Doug Liman -- now titled "Luna" -- has been inching forward in fits and starts for the past while. Originally with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead, who later left the project, it sputtered back to life this past spring when a wealth of names were said to be contending for the open role including Andrew Garfield, Emile Hirsch and Chris Pine. And even longer list of actresses were tipped as possibilities for the female lead with Rosario Dawson, Megan Fox, Rachel McAdams, Eva Mendes, Zoe Saldana and Olivia Wilde all getting mentioned. And then -- we didn't hear much else. Well, the movie now looks pretty much certain to be Liman's next project and more info has landed.

Hey, "Captain America" is coming out! We have to confess we'd kind of forgotten about the film: Marvel and Paramount haven't yet been saturation marketing the flick in the same way that other superhero blockbusters have been ("X-Men First Class," you were pretty good, but there was really no need for all those posters, now, was there?). Whether it's a lack of confidence in the movie, or more realistically, that the film still isn't out for another seven weeks, things seem to be gearing up again.

As It Turns Out, Martin Freeman & Anthony Mackie Are Also In The Cast Anna Faris is an extremely talented comedienne. There's no denying that. Ever since her early appearances in the "Scary Movie" franchise, she's shone, even with material that's generally far beneath her. But every time it looks like she's heading for the A-list -- the surprise success of "The House Bunny," for instance, or demonstrating her range in "Brokeback Mountain" -- the next few projects tank, and she's reduced to playing straight woman to talking CGI animals in "Yogi Bear."

Actor Confirms That Captain America And Tony Stark Will Butt Heads In 'The Avengers'Little bit of nerd talk here, bear with us. Given the nature of most modern super hero films, WW2 is a pretty unique setting, which makes "Captain America: The First Avenger" --- a picture that has looked better and better since it was first announced -- something that could (hopefully) pan out as an interesting, enjoyable and entertaining piece of popcorn (hey, if "Thor" can pull it off, anything's possible, right?). So, some of us have been asking internally, could a "Captain America" sequel possibly be set once again in WW2? Or sometime in the past?

In Semi-Related News, Sun Rises In East, Sets In WestBit by bit, we're moving towards the hugely ambitious endgame of the first wave of Marvel's self-produced pictures. We've had two "Iron Man" films and an "Incredible Hulk," and they're soon to be joined by "Thor" (look out for our review coming in the next 24 hours) and "Captain America: The First Avenger," while "The Avengers," the Joss Whedon-helmed epic that'll team the heroes of all four franchises, starts filming this very day, ahead of its release a year from now.

Marvel's promotional engine for "Captain America: The First Avenger" is beginning to kick into high gear with a new poster, and the implication that this film is also serving as an advertisement for 2012's "The Avengers." How else to explain the complete absence of Captain America's name in favor of the "Avenge" tagline? Marvel's been gunshy about using 'America' in conjunction with the marketing, but, c'mon, this is a seventy year old character that remains popular today. Given what we know of the plot - Cap and Bucky teaming to stop the Red Skull from retrieving the magical Cosmic Cube - what exactly is being avenged?

'Captain America' To be Retitled For Certain International MarketsJust a day after we received word that Marvel was eyeing a writer for a "Black Panther" movie, rumblings persist that they also have an as-yet-unidentified writer on board a "War Machine" spin-off. At least according to star Don Cheadle, currently at Sundance promoting "The Guard." "They're developing it now, they're working on that," Cheadle said, "I think they've hired a writer, so we'll see how it goes. It would be a lot of fun."

.Mobility! Within an LA Times slide show of 2011's big movies is a new photo from "Captain America: The First Avenger" showcasing the red, white and blue freedom fighter eschewing trendy posturing for a more proactive pose. One of the criticisms of superhero costumes relates to the comfort level and how they accommodate human physiques, but this cannily-chosen snap does a good job illustrating that Chris Evans will actually get to be an action hero in his action hero pajamas.
