It seems it's all about world building right now. With Marvel proving it can make a billion dollar success by tying together their superhero movies, other studios are giving it a shot. Universal will show the connective tissue between "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "The Bourne Legacy" on Friday, and you can bet Warner Bros. has that strategy in the back of their mind as they consider greenlighting the massive "The Dark Tower," and the folks over at Paramount may be considering the same thing with their Jack Ryan reboot.

So just how much of a nightmare is Paramount's "World War Z"? By the looks of it, a zombie apocalypse would be preferable to what they're going through on the Brad Pitt tentpole. With the movie delayed to next summer, seven weeks of reshoots tentatively planned for this fall and the studio honcho admitting that so far, they've only got 45 minutes to 1 hour of a decent movie, a helluva lot of work needs to be done to prevent this from becoming a cautionary tale executives talk about in retirement. It was only last month that "Lost" and "Prometheus" scribe Damon Lindelof was brought in to try and bang out something better than what Paramount had before, but it turns out, he had a bit of help.

British actor David Oyelowo has been edging towards proper stardom gently in the last few years. The Royal Shakespeare Company veteran became well known in the U.K. after starring in the spy series "Spooks" (or "M-I:5" in the U.S.) and 2006's "The Last King of Scotland," and has worked steadily in big film projects. Last year, he looked to be properly on the brink when he landed the key part of Martin Luther King Jr. in Lee Daniels' "Selma." And while that film is yet to happen, he's had a pretty great 2011 regardless, with prominent roles in two late summer blockbusters as Preacher Green in "The Help" and the villainous Steven Jacobs in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."

With "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" already in the can and coming out this December, Adam Shankman's "Rock of Ages" musical currently shooting, and "Tron: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski's "Oblivion" prepping up for a summer 2013 release, Tom Cruise is making plans for his next big tentpole vehicle. This time it's an adaptation of Lee Child's 2005 crime thriller "One Shot" that is being set up over at Paramount. Being scripted by Cruise's go-to screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie, who penned "Valkyrie" and 'Ghost Protocol,' the writer practically tailor makes scripts for the superstar whenever the A-lister is interested or semi-interested in a project.
