So “The Hunger Games” is still doing quite well, “Wrath of the Titans” is performing tolerably, but looking to ripple the waters this weekend is the behemoth of behemoth blockbuster movies, “Titanic (in 3D),” which (re)opened on Wednesday. It will again make James Cameron a boatload of money (HA) so he can buy another submarine or whatever he uses his money for. Not a bad life Cameron, not bad at all. Oh, and some other movies opened as well, in the event that you’re in the mood for something other than a large-budget epic with sick CGI. Thrillers, indie comedies, and dramedies set in Vatican City abound this week: sit back, relax, and “never let go, Jack.” (I'm so sorry for that. I just couldn’t resist.)

Celebrating its 40th anniversary later this year, Comic-Con, while originally a convention for comic books and science fiction/fantasy enthusiasts has expanded into an annual pop-culture juggernaut that as Kevin Smith says, Comic-Con has gone mainstream; in his view on par with Cannes, Sundance and even the Olympics. Even your mom has heard about it.

Love him or hate him, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve found the often antagonizing but occasionally thought provoking “Super Size Me” documentarian Morgan Spurlock to be of interest at some point in his career. From his revealing take on the McDonald’s menu to his recent look at product placement and promotion in our culture with “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold,” Spurlock has covered much ground in his effort to satirize (and investigate) many elements of everyday American life.

To an outsider, one who exercises regularly and enjoys a healthy sex life, Comic-Con is a baffling and terrifying phenomenon -- the giant, money-soaked extrapolation of the inside of a perpetual 13-year-old-boy's head. But that mystique may wear off when "Super Size Me" director Morgan Spurlock's "Comic-Con Episode IV - A Fan's Hope" (even the title has us rolling our eyes) comes out next year. It was announced today that LA-based production and distribution company Wrekin Hill and NECA, a movie merchandising company that puts out "Gremlins" action figures, have teamed to release the film in the spring of 2012.

Here's the thing about Comic-Con. You can't be everywhere at once and no matter how much planning you put into it, there is always something you're going to miss or in this case, a surprise you didn't see coming. So for those who were at Animation Showcase in Hall H early yesterday afternoon, they got a treat as director Morgan Spurlock showed up and showed a teaser trailer for his forthcoming documentary "Comic-Con Episode Four: A Fan’s Hope." Say what?
