The rock 'em, sock 'em futuristic fighting robot movie "Real Steel" swings into theaters this weekend, and tomorrow the soundtrack will drop with some tunes to get you pumped for the pugilistic pic.

Just recently when discussing composer Mychael Danna's excellent score for the humanist sports drama, "Moneyball," we lamented the fact that writing about soundtracks isn't always easy, as often they're not the sexiest topic in the world. However, maybe we'll be putting that theory to the test in the fall of 2011.

Discussing soundtracks, especially scores can be, in some instances, sort of dull. It's easy to confabulate when a pop or rock figure like Trent Reznor ("The Social Network"), Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead ("There Will Be Blood") or Karen O & The Kids ("Where The Wild Things Are"), but aside from Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, Clint Mansell, Jon Brion and maybe John Murphy known for his great collaborations with Danny Boyle, there are very few "superstar" composers that mainstream audiences appreciate or generally want to read about. For example, Alberto Iglesias (known for his work with Pedro Almodovar) is probably, aside from Alexander Desplat, one of the greatest living composers on the planet right now, but not that many spend time spilling ink over his work. In our minds, Abel Korzeniowski ("A Single Man") is certainly a composer to watch, but can anyone hum one of his works?

Composer James Horner has seemingly done it all during his lengthy career. With seven Oscar nominations leading to one win (for "Titanic"), Horner has tuned up a wide variety of movies including "Wolfen," "48 Hrs.," "Glory," "Honey I Shrunk The Kids," "Braveheart," "Apollo 13," "Avatar" and even famously clashed with Terrence Malick over "The New World." However, aside from "The Rocketeer," he hasn't done much in the way of comic book movies. But all that may change very soon. In a recent interview with SCOREcast Online (via Film Music Reporter) music editor and frequent Horner collaborator Jim Henrikson revealed that the composer “is pretty well set” to take on the gig. However, it should be noted this interview took place way back in May (why it's only being aired now is beyond us) and there has been no other word either way anywhere else since. So take it as tentative for now.

So, has Paul Thomas Anderson's "There Will Be Blood" found a double bill partner in Jean-Jacques Annaud’s forthcoming "Black Gold"? We'll know soon enough if the film will deliver the goods, but with a solid cast in front of the camera and a pretty interesting premise, the ingredients are there for something truly epic.

Gus Van Sant has long been fascinated by young people – the way they interact with each other, the way they move, the way they emote, and, most importantly, the way they die (or at the very least face their mortality head-on – you could even lump his interesting, if aimless, "Psycho" remake in there). But he's never dared to make a movie as self-indulgent, pointless, mushy, and boring as "Restless," one that borrows heavily from movies much better than it ("Harold & Maude," "Love Story," "An American Werewolf in London," countless French New Wave flicks), and fails to leave even the slightest impression, beyond the thought of never, ever, ever wanting to see it again.

A few years ago, Disney planned a theatrical release for a 3D version of "Beauty & the Beast," using the cutting edge, post-"Avatar" technology that we've all come to know so well (and sometimes dread just as much). The conversion took place, at great expense, but the theatrical engagement (originally set for February, 2010) never materialized. Still, the studio pressed ahead (Walt always said that good ideas never die), and this week the studio's traditionally animated crown jewel "The Lion King," in a shiny new 3D format, will get a proper release – in 2,000 3D screens across the country. But what does a 3D version of a traditionally animated movie look like, exactly? And is it worth seeing again, with a 3D ticket surcharge no less?

Review: 'I Don't Know How She Does It' Is A Pained, Unfunny, Politically Questionable Bore

One of the "charmingly neurotic" tics of the main character of "I Don't Know How She Does It," played brittlely and with affected strain by Sarah Jessica Parker, is making to-do lists. Since the year is 2011 and editing software has come a long way, we see her visualize the list as the prepares for sleep – everything from arranging her daughter's play date to doing some Kegel exercises (yes, seriously) – with words and small images appearing tattooed on the ceiling of her bohemian chic Boston apartment (accompanied by a never-ending stream of voice-over narration). While watching "I Don't Know How She Does It," which at a swift 89 minutes still feels longer than the "Three Colors" trilogy combined, you'll be tempted to make a similar mental inventory of things that you could (and should),instead of watching this wretched claptrap, which we're fairly certain has single-handedly set the feminist cause back a good 35-40 years.

As Promised, Keira Knightley, Jude Law & Aaron Johnson To StarWell, Joe Wright and Focus Features have locked down the cast for their lavish adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's classic novel "Anna Karenina," and it seems like a full house of talent – in addition to the already confirmed Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Aaron Johnson, Matthew Mcfadyen ("Pride & Prejudice") and Olivia Williams, the film has added Domhnall Gleeson ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"), Alicia Vikander ("The Seventh Son"), Emily Watson, and Ruth Wilson (BBC series "Luther").

But At Least We Can Listen To The Score To Tide Us OverIs there any film this fall bigger than "Tinker Tailor Solider Spy"? Awards talk is already growing around Gary Oldman and with the film set to premiere in Venice in just a matter of days, the buzz is only going to get louder for the film is going to be a major player at the Oscars. While those in the U.K. will be lucky to enough to see the film when it opens on September 16th, Focus Features is testing the patience of those of us stateside as they've pushed back the date from the planned November 18th release date three more weeks to December 9th. The eagle eyed RopeOfSilicon noticed the date change that was confirmed by Pete Hammond over at Deadline in the midst of his latest awards season update.
