Fredrik Malmberg, the CEO of Paradox Entertainment, a company that currently holds the rights to the "Conan the Barbarian" franchise (originally created by pulp author Robert E. Howard), claims that the new 'Conan' movie, which is slated to star Arnold Schwarzenegger in the iconic role he made famous back in 1982, will actually/hopefully be the first part of a new trilogy. Good lord that's a lot of Conan!

Poor old Jason Momoa. For all the problems there were with that “Conan the Barbarian” reboot, he wasn’t one of them. The man mountain probably wouldn’t have been back for a sequel any time soon regardless, but now with Arnie out of retirement that’s one payday that will never come back around for him. Universal (the studio behind the previous two Arnie Conan films, but not the 2011 reboot) announced last year that they had reacquired the rights to the franchise and were planning “The Legend of Conan” with Arnold Schwarzenegger back as the Cimmerian warrior.

These days, after "Lord of the Rings" and "Game Of Thrones," fantasy isn't just big business, but it can also be an critically acclaimed awards favorite, picking up Oscars and Emmys by the handful. As such, it's easy to forget that prior to the 1980s, the genre barely existed on screen, with animated takes on Tolkein's works the only really significant pictures in the genre. But in 1977, "Star Wars," a film that owed as much to high fantasy as to science-fiction, became the biggest hit in history, and that opened the door to all kinds of new fantasy worlds.

Weekend Box Office: Audiences Stay Home In Droves As 'The Help' Defeats Weak New Releases

Credit a canny expansion strategy that nabbed “The Help” the number one spot at the box office in its second weekend of release. Disney wisely banked on the film having more buzz than the slate of underwhelming new releases (not all of it positive), and after two weekends, it’s easily one of the season’s big success stories, as the picture has crested $70 million after only twelve days of release. The establishment has been encouraged - stories of the struggles of minorities highlighted by the heroism of a plucky white person of higher social strata are surefire earners, particularly if you market to families. Institutionalized racism at its most efficient.

Hi kids! Didya miss me? I have to first apologize for slandering "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," that movie was great! More cartoon faces of apes played by Andy Serkis please! Who was your favorite ape? Mine was Maurice the orangutan. Okay, so there's a ton of crazy stuff opening this weekend so let's get right to it! "Conan!" "Fright Night!" "One Day!" "Spy Kids 4" in Smell-o-vision (I'm glad 'Apes' wasn't in smell-o-vision, nah mean?)!

For a good quarter of a century, since Arnie hung up his loincloth in 1984's "Conan The Destroyer," people have been trying to bring Robert E. Howard's pulp sword-and-sorcery hero back to the big screen, most notably in John Milius' unmade "King Conan," while The Wachowskis, Robert Rodriguez and Brett Ratner have also made various attempts at the material. Finally, he's returned for some rapin' and pillagin', thanks to Lionsgate and "Friday the 13th" director Marcus Nispel, with "Game of Thrones" star Jason Momoa as the Cimmerian. We caught the film's European premiere at Empire Big Screen tonight: was it worth the wait?

The trailers have looked terrible thus far, but audiences seem to be digging swords-and-sandals pics these days both on the big and small screen. As we already know "300" was a massive hit, "Spartacus" on Starz! is one of the network's biggest shows and "Immortals" and "Wrath Of The Titans" (yes, that title is now official) are on the way with "300: Battle Of Artemisia" in development. All this to say that if next week's "Conan The Barbarian" is a hit, actor Jason Momoa might add screenwriter to his job title.

Greased up sweaty dudes? Swords? Mythical creatures? Lots of yelling? No, this isn't the new trailer for "Immortals" but instead it's the latest U.K. spot for "Conan The Barbarian" the long awaited franchise reboot no one was asking for.

Well, at least "Conan The Barbarian" isn't aspiring to be anything its not but that doesn't mean it still doesn't look like a giant pile of shit.
