When you have big names like Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Marion Cotillard, Laurence Fishburne, plus acclaimed figures like Emmy-winner Bryan Cranston and Oscar-nominee John Hawkes in your film, most studios would plaster their faces all over the one-sheet. Warner Bros has, as yet, not taken that approach with "Contagion" (though we're sure its coming), the latest film from Steven Soderbergh, a dark, realistic look at the global spread of a bird-flu-like virus.

Just like Warner Bros.' "Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows," cheap bootlegged footage from Entertainment Tonight made its way online from Steven Soderbergh's virus thriller "Contagion" today. So following the pattern, WB has just decided to drop the trailer like it's hot (so how about the "The Dark Knight Rises"?).

Relativity Media Will Distribute in U.S.Well, that's one film we can take out of awards contention for 2011. One of Steven Soderbergh's upcoming films "Haywire" won't be released till January 20, 2012. As we've been saying all along, Relativity Media has retained the domestic rights, with Lionsgate holding on to the foreign rights. Lionsgate was all set to release in the U.S. as well, until restructuring gave partner Relativity its own domestic arm for distribution. The initial date was April, 2011, which Soderbergh confirmed himself, but it was never officially announced; the restructuring deal points took much longer than anyone expected. Then August, 2011 became the next date everyone was zeroing on, but they too lost that window of opportunity when the deal pushed back the chance to release trailers and posters.

Says Soderbergh Is Temping The Film With 'French Connection' & 'Marathon Man' ScoresEXCLUSIVE: Working at a relentless pace, Steven Soderbergh's work ethic has benefitted not only from his drive and focus, but from surrounding himself with a regular group of collaborators who understand his process and approach to filmmaking. And one of those regulars is composer Cliff Martinez (a former drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers too). He has worked with Soderbergh ever since his debut "sex, lies & videotape," contributing to films big and small including "Kafka," "Traffic," "The Limey," "King Of The Hill" and more. The forthcoming virus thriller, "Contagion," will mark their tenth film together and it will definitely find the duo in new territory. Described by Soderbergh as a type of "horror movie" the star-studded tale -- the cast includes Kate Winslet, Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Marion Cotillard, Jude Law and many, many more -- chronicles the outbreak of a deadly virus as it spreads quickly worldwide. It's a new genre for composer and director alike and the results should be fascinating.

Throughout his film career -- which he is looking to step away from after he completes "Liberace" and "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." -- Steven Soderbergh has easily moved from digestible Hollywood blockbusters like the "Ocean's Eleven" trilogy to studio dramas like "Traffic" or "Erin Brokovich," to stylish genre exercises like "Kakfa" or "Out of Sight" to micro-indies like "Bubble" or "The Girlfriend Experience." But as the years have gone on, and Soderbergh's output continues at a brisk pace, the director has become savvy to the machinations of the Hollywood machine and shepherding a project that will likely be difficult to finance or even find an audience is no longer something the helmer is willing to do.

Cliff Martinez Scoring 'Contagion'While we've lately been going off about the lack of quality female-led comedies with last year's "Easy A" and "Bridesmaids," "Bad Teacher" and "Friends With Benefits" on the way, it seems at least that gap will be filled for now. But another genre that has been largely void of strong female roles has been action films, but Steven Soderbergh is about to make a distinct impression in that field with his upcoming "Haywire."
