Don Jon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson
This one's got love, sex and porn. What more could you want? Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a triple threat. Writer, director, actor, you could even go quintuple or more if you counted his growing entrepreneurial multi-media empire hitRecord and his seemingly innate ability to sing and dance. Having made many shorts for his aforementioned company, Gordon-Levitt directed his first feature-length effort earlier this year and it premiered to rave reviews at Sundance. Titled "Don Jon," the movie co-stars Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Tony Danza and Brie Larson and centers on a New Jersey lothario (JGL) who develops unrealistic expectations from watching porn and then has to work at finding happiness and intimacy with his potential true love.

Wong Kar-Wai's martial arts epic "The Grandmaster" kicks its way onto screens this weekend, with a generous push from The Weinstein Company. The studio has been promoting the movie via traditional methods, but they've also been thinking outside the box. Last month, they brought Wong Kar-Wai to San Diego for Comic-Con and in a fitting fashion, a comic book was created at the same time and released at the convention. But if you weren't in San Diego and still want to check it out, we've got a pretty special treat...

There are few filmmakers who arrived with quite the same frenzy as Xavier Dolan did when he unveiled his directorial debut, "I Killed My Mother" in 2009. Landing at Cannes for a splashy premiere, where it took the Prix Regards C.I.C.A.E. Award, and putting the director on the map, it established the bold style that Dolan would develop across two more features, "Heartbeats" and "Laurence Anyways." With Dolan slated to unveil his latest effort, the thriller "Tom At The Farm" — which promises to be taking a different direction than his previous works — now is as good a time as any to revisit where it all begun.

Love, sex, relationships...porn? Yep, that XXX material once relegated to magazines stuffed under mattresses and shoved into rarely used dresser drawers is now nearly mainstream. Everyone looks at it, but what if looking at that material was part of your daily life to the point where it affected how you relate to the opposite sex? That's the jumping off point for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's feature directorial debut "Don Jon," and a new trailer has arrived to give you a sample of what he's put together.

There are many elements that have come together to make "Breaking Bad" not only one of the best shows on TV right now, but really of all time. From the fearless plotting, the breathless direction and the outstanding performances from the cast — Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Bob Odenkirk, Dean Norris, Anna Gunn and many more — all have come together in the kind of perfect storm you don't get too often. But not mentioned nearly often enough is the score by Dave Porter.

Ain't Them Bodies Saints
You already know that we're huge fans of David Lowery's film "Ain't Them Bodies Saints," starring Rooney Mara, Casey Affleck and Ben Foster; a lyrical, meditative take on the Southern gothic family crime drama, and a deeply felt love story all rolled into one. At its debut at Sundance, we wrote in our review that, "Lowery is the real deal and understands filmmaking, and this is abundantly clear in this searing, romantic crime drama and love story." We also put the film on our "13 Films to See in August" list, and now we're here to help you do just that.

A film that first astounded and terrified us when we saw it at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year, and has shaken nearly every team member at The Playlist who's caught up with it since, Joshua Oppenheimer's documentary "The Act Of Killing" is one of the most unforgettable cinematic experiences you'll have this year. And with the movie expanding this past weekend to even more cities, we have a special prize for those equally taken with the film or anyone who is a die hard Herzog fan.

"If you ride like lightning, you're going to crash like thunder," Ryan Gosling is warned in "The Place Beyond The Pines." And in his reteam with "Blue Valentine" director Derek Cianfrance, that phrase is one that echoes through generations, in a epic film about legacy, loss and the sins of the father. The film, which premiered last year at the Toronto International Film Festival, opened in cinemas this past spring and did brisk business, but if it didn't make it to your town or somehow you didn't manage to see it, we've got a treat....
