Many fans of David Cronenberg have begun to miss the director's freakier films of the past, with the helmer taking on more sober fare in recent years including "A History Of Violence," "Eastern Promises" and "A Dangerous Method." To be certain, none of those efforts were what you would call mainstream, but they lacked the oddball flavor Cronenberg made his name with. Well, "Cosmopolis" should find the Canadian filmmaker returning to those more surreal efforts of the past, and, naturally, he still has few curveballs to deliver.

As we know, Robert Pattinson is looking to stretch his wings beyond Edward in the "Twilight" series. Yesterday he signed on to hunt Saddam Hussein in "Mission: Blacklist" but before that gets rolling, the actor will show off this chops in David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis." And we now have a better idea of what we can expect from that film.

With David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" set to premiere in a couple of weeks at the Cannes Film Festival and then hit theaters in France on May 25th, the big question has been: when are we going to get it? Well the good news is that the film's North American rights have now been snapped up.

If you'd have told us a few years ago that Robert Pattinson would be walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, we would've said you were crazy. But the young actor is leading a youth contingent at the fest this year (along with his main squeeze Kristen Stewart and Zac Efron) who will be bringing new energy to a lineup that also boasts a solid list of Cannes veterans.

We always knew that David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis" was going to be something special, but still, no one was quite prepared for the first teaser trailer that dropped last week. All Gaspar Noé strobe lights and lettering, our minds were fucked with images of Robert Pattinson shooting through his own hand, a goddamn dinosaur, futuristic guns and Juliette Binoche getting it on with Eric Packer in the back of a limo. So yeah, we're stoked.

After the rather staid costume drama of "A Dangerous Method," a film that failed to embrace the kink promised in the premise of an sado-masochistic affair between Jung and a former patient, many started to wonder: had David Cronenberg gone soft? The filmmaker has been steadily moving into more mainstream territory, but generally managed to keep a little of the transgressiveness that made his name with films from "The Brood" to "Crash." But with the Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender drama? Not so much.
