Benedict Cumberbatch is pretty much on the precipice of stardom, if not already there. As the villain in both "Star Trek Into Darkness" and "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" this year, his wonderfully English name will be increasingly familiar to American audiences, and that's not to mention a potential awards baiting performance as Julian Assange in "The Fifth Estate" this fall. So what's next? He's gonna get some period clothes out of the closet again. Not to solve mysteries or endure various dramas, but instead to ride with whatever Guillermo del Toro is cooking up.

While we were a touch disappointed by the teaser trailer, we're still pretty amped to see Guillermo Del Toro's monsters vs. robots epic "Pacific Rim." In part it's because it's the "Pan's Labyrinth" director's first film in five years. In part, it's because it has ROBOTS FIGHTING MONSTERS. And in part, it's because of the sheer confidence that everyone involves seems to be showing. Warners have already commissioned a script for a sequel, and now, Del Toro has shown that he's happy with the job that his lead in the film, Charlie Hunnam, has done: by casting him in his next movie.

Though she's rightfully earned her claim to fame thanks to a string of comic roles, Emma Stone has slowly branching out. She's put on her blockbuster shoes with "The Amazing Spider-Man" franchise, gone down the drama route with "The Help" and last weekend gave a stab at playing the femme fatale in the guns and molls goof "Gangster Squad." But for one her next roles, she'll be heading into new territory.

This weekend the new horror film "Mama" opens in theaters nationwide. It's the spooky tale of a pair of young girls who are abandoned in a cabin in the woods for several years. When they are finally discovered and returned to society, to live with their kindly uncle (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from "Game Of Thrones") and his punkish girlfriend (Jessica Chastain), something else comes along with them… a spectral figure the girls name "Mama." In other words: perfect material for producer Guillermo del Toro to shepherd to the big screen.

After a torrid few years that have stalled Guillermo del Toro’s involvement with a number of projects, we’re positively ecstatic that things are looking up for one of cinema’s most affable filmmakers. After the well-documented troubles he went through on “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” and with his mooted H.P. Lovecraft adaptation “At the Mountains of Madness,” the director‘s first feature since 2008 will arrive in theatres next July (that’s “Pacific Rim” by the way), and his next few projects seem to be falling into place. Del Toro explained earlier in the week that there was still some hope for “At the Mountains of Madness,” but after he finishes up his work on a TV adaptation of “The Strain,” he’ll be getting to work on “Crimson Peak.”

While it can sometimes be hard to wade through the dozens of projects Guillermo Del Toro is writing, producing or developing, we'll make it simple: next summer comes "Pacific Rim," after which he's working on the TV adapation of his "The Strain" series and book, and after that, he's now signed up to direct the feature ghost story "Crimson Peak" for his next movie.
