Now that we're promised sci-fi violence, some intense images, and a smattering of brief language, 20th Century Fox is now ramping its “Prometheus” marketing into overdrive to try and ensure an audience sees the damn thing. Not that the film's smart campaign hasn't been incredibly satisfying thus far, but that's exactly why a new TV spot and featurette revealed today might still pique your interest.

If you'd like to cynically file this one under "no shit Sherlock," we won't entirely blame you, but hear us out for a second. Way back when "Prometheus" was first announced circa March 2010, it wasn't "Prometheus." Written by Jon Spaihts and conceived then as a full-blown prequel to 1979's “Alien,” when the announcement first arrived, Ridley Scott himself corrected journos that had asked about the prequel during “Robin Hood” press. “Prequels, two films," he stressed, noting both would be shot in 3D but wouldn’t be shot back to back.

Taking a break from defending his show "Lost" from detractors on Twitter, along with writing some of the most talked-about upcoming studio projects, "Prometheus" scribe Damon Lindelof sat down with MTV to talk Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel/sequel/spinoff and gave a few hints that may be a bit spoiler-filled for some. And Five More Things We Learned At Comic-Con Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” has been shrouded in secrecy and confusing rhetoric almost since we first heard of the project. First it was an “Alien” prequel and then it wasn’t. Now it is again. But not really. Whatever. At least they are now discussing the project and promising some footage and/or trailers surfacing by fall. And they’re at least sure enough about it to start shedding at least a little light (which will most likely give us even more questions).

Damon Lindelof Admits The Title Might Be PretentiousThe puzzle of Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" is slowly, but surely beginning to take a hazy shape. Earlier today, we got our first official look at the film, and the surprises keep coming. The press conference brought out one of the film's stars, Charlize Theron and together with writer Damon Lindelof, they fielded questions about the upcoming "Alien" universe film and while we're still no closer to a full picture of what's to come, we did get a few more scraps.

Writer Damon Lindelof Explains Why Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' Isn't & Is An 'Alien' PrequelIn case you've been living under a rock, you're aware that director Ridley Scott is returning to the world of sci-fi after a nearly 30-year absence. Yes, it's been that long since "Blade Runner" in 1982 ("Legend" is fantasy, leave it at that). He making "Prometheus," a project that started out as a "Alien" prequel written by Jon Spaihts and then morphed into something new when "Lost" writer Damon Lindelof pitched a new direction which Scott loved. 20th Century Fox and Scott, pivoted and "Prometheus" was born -- though considering how fast they changed everything, found a cast, a green light and a release date, one has to wonder if the changes weren't that radical.

'Lost' Scribe Reportedly Receiving Seven-Figure DealDamon Lindelof has become quite the Hollywood favorite after writing and exec producing "Lost" through to its controversial finish last year. He helped write the upcoming "Cowboys and Aliens" for Jon Favreau and gave a much-needed boost to Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel, so much so that Scott deemed the story worthy of a completely new figuration called "Prometheus."

Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel is now titled "Prometheus." Noomi Rapace is starring. It's comes out March 9, 2012. Whoa. More than that, it's not even a prequel anymore and apparently it's transformed into something "more original."
