First Synopsis Suggest That Judi Dench's M Will Be Front-And-CenterUpdate: The official Bond twitter account, @007, have revealed the first synopsis for the project, which reads: "Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost." It certainly backs up the idea that it's a stand-alone tale, and suggests a bigger role for Dench, as Bond's superior M, than ever before. Intriguing stuff...

Across his 40 year career as Hollywood's most beloved filmmaker, Steven Spielberg has tried his hand at many different things -- the blockbuster thrill ride, the family film, the comedy, the war film, hardcore science-fiction, serious dramas and whatever it was that "The Terminal" was, a diverse range of pictures united by that certain Spielberg je-ne-sais-quoi. But there's something he's never tackled directly himself; the animated film. Sure, he's produced TV cartoons like "Animaniacs," and even the occasional big-screen one, like "An American Tail" and "We're Back," but for the most part, the Bearded One has always preferred live action to ink and pixels.

Could Direct 'Sheriff Street Stories' About Childhood In Ireland NextIt's always disappointing when strong directors come out with a film that is absolutely terrible. Jim Sheridan's "Dream House," with an 8% critics' rating on Rotten Tomatoes and only $14.5 million dollars in box office so far, initially had a boatload of promise with charismatic stars Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts, but what we saw was terrifyingly bad (and not because trailers promised a horror story à la Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining"). And just as everyone was beginning to wonder what had happened, besides the extensive reshoots, the LA Times reported late last week that Sheridan wanted his name taken off the final film.

Is 'Skyfall' The Name Of Sam Mendes' James Bond Film?

Considering it's had an unusually tortured journey to the screen for a big franchise picture, thanks to the financial problems of MGM, it's not entirely surprising that details are relatively thin for the twenty-third James Bond film, the third to star Daniel Craig as the suave secret agent. Oscar-winner Sam Mendes has been attached to direct for close to two years now, we've known that for certain. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who've penned the first draft of every Bond script since "The World Is Not Enough," again did the groundwork, before Peter Morgan, John Logan and most recently "Notes on a Scandal" scribe Patrick Marber, came on for a polish. And it's a given that the plot will continue, or possibly cap off, Bond's pursuit of Quantum, the secret organization behind the events of "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace."

Is it just us, or are trailers getting shorter? Obviously, there have always been brief teasers around, but even the final clips rarely seem to top out over two minutes these days, happy to tantalize audiences with money shots and the "Inception" fart-trombone noise -- the days of old, with four-five minute trailers, sometimes even introduced by the cast or director themselves (like this all-time favourite of ours) seemingly long gone. Of course, you can rely on David Fincher to buck that trend.

Last night, advance screenings of Screen Gems' "Straw Dogs" around the country were preceded by a pleasant/nasty surprise from parent company Sony, in the form of an eight-minute preview of David Fincher's Feel-Bad Movie Of Christmas, "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." While it was cut together like a trailer, and it may surface online, it was strictly for the hardcore fans, and, while un-spoilery, did indeed lean towards the R-rated end of the spectrum.

It might be one of the most anticipated movies of the year, but we're still relatively in the dark about David Fincher's version of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." There was that attention-grabbing poster of course, and a perfectly-edited teaser trailer, but there's still a lot to come for the R-rated studio-funded version of a mystery tale that's already proven a giant hit both in Stieg Larsson's original novels, and in the Swedish trilogy of films, which launched Noomi Rapace to international stardom.

While he's currently doing the press rounds for Jon Favreau's forthcoming alien invasion western "Cowboys & Aliens," Daniel Craig continues to drop some interesting morsels about David Fincher's forthcoming "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." Earlier in the month he compared the tone and seriousness of the picture to adult dramas of yesteryear like "The Godfather," adding that the free rein Fincher has been given for his $100-million R-rated film left Craig "with my hand was over my mouth, going, ‘Are you fucking serious?’”

For the most part, the Daniel Craig-era of Bond has left behind many of the franchise's most familiar tropes; aside from Judi Dench as MI6 head honcho M, and the CIA agent Felix Leiter played by Jeffrey Wright, it's a been a fresh start: no Q, no Blofeld, no SPECTRE, no gadgets. It worked out nicely in "Casino Royale," not so well in "Quantum of Solace," and now it appears that at least one classic Ian Fleming-created character is going to appear in the latest, Sam Mendes-directed entry in the series, currently known only as "Bond 23."

Daniel Craig & Rachel Weisz Thriller 'Dream House' Loses Appeal On R-Rating

In what is likely another ridiculous decision by the Motion Picture Association of America, the new thriller "Dream House" will still receive an R-rating upon its release. The Hollywood Reporter announced that the movie, which stars Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz has lost the appeal for a lesser rating put forth by Morgan Creek, who produced and financed the project. Never ones to be verbose or clear in their decisions, the Classification and Rating Appeals Board (an arm of the MPAA) simply stated that the rating was based on "some violence" that is featured in the film. Well, that clears it up.
