With the marketing department behind David Fincher's "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" already giving the film the tagline "The Feel Bad Movie Of Christmas," they certainly aren't joking around. Based on Stieg Larsson's international best-selling book, the story delves into rape, sexual abuse, torture, sodomy and other similarly salacious elements, so yeah, this may be one where you'd be advised to leave grandma at home. But full credit to Sony, they are going R-rated with this one all the way and standing clear to let Fincher do his thing and as Daniel Craig tells it to Esquire the movie will be an anomaly at the multiplex that increasing caters to younger and younger audiences.

So, "Super 8" was pretty good, huh? With a couple of exceptions among The Playlist team (including this one, who hasn't seen it yet), it's getting very positive reactions, and from the looks of it better-than-expected box office, it's carrying over with general audiences as well, marking an almost unprecedented two blockbusters in a row that turned out to be decent. But is the competition going to sit back and let J.J. Abrams be feted as the king of the summer blockbuster season? Don't count on it.

One of the biggest question marks of the year has been Steven Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin." The director's coming off the worst film of his career, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," and tackling a comic book that few in the U.S. have heard of, in the performance capture manner that's seen the undoing of Robert Zemeckis in recent years, seemed like a fairly risky move, all things considered. And it doesn't help that the film's been mostly shrouded in mystery.

First Trailer To Arrive Tomorrow MorningFor one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year, at least everywhere except the U.S, word's been strangely quiet on "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn." Uniting blockbuster giants Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson for the first time (the former's directing, the latter producing), on an adaptation of the massively successful graphic novel series about a Belgian boy detective, his dog Snowy, his best friend, a drunken sea captain, and the adventures they go on, we had a glimpse of a handful of images before Christmas, but little since then. We guess because the film's being realized in performance-capture computer animation, and so Sony and Paramount have presumably had to wait until the polish has been put on properly.

There are a whole lot of movies coming this summer based on comic books, but the one we're looking forward to most doesn't come from either the Marvel or DC banners. Jon Favreau's "Cowboys & Aliens," based on the graphic novel of the same title, is an ambitious melding of two genres that looks to be delivering the goods on both counts. The first trailer impressed and this afternoon, the Super Bowl spot from the film dropped and within its thirty second runtime, it has renewed our interest in the film all over again.

Well, they managed to squeeze some time in last month and with a fresh fall date now planned, Universal has plenty of time to build up to the release of the film.

Update: Here's what happened. Variety tried to be bloggers and failed and dug up a Total Film interview from January 2010 that they mistook for 2011. We were dumb enough to follow suit -- though so did half the Internet. Nothing to see here, please move on.
