Surely at this stage, Danny Elfman must have some kind of cloning machine at work. In 2012 alone, the Oingo Boingo member turned composer has penned two scores for his regular collaborator Tim Burton, "Dark Shadows" and "Frankenweenie," another for "Men In Black 3," and one for David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook." He's got Fox animated pic "Epic" and a reunion with Sam Raimi on "Oz The Great and Powerful" coming up too, but all being well, we could see two more Elfman scores before the year is out.

While your eyes will be dazzled next month with the staggering number of great movies unspooling at TIFF, you may want to keep your ears at attention too, because there are some rather interesting names popping up as composers and contributors of music to a variety of films.

Whether you end up loving it or hating it (as our reviewer did), one has to admit that there are few films like "Dark Shadows" in theaters this summer. Based on the popular 1960s/1970s ABC soap that included vampires, werewolves and witches, the film is a curious blend of comedy, drama and horror that's indelibly a Tim Burton creation.

Ah, ye olde "scheduling conflicts," a catch-all excuse usually utilized to cover up more nefarious frictions between creative types, but in the case of "The Hunger Games," it seems to be the real deal.

Review: Gus Van Sant's 'Restless' A Sappy Misfire From A Director Capable Of So Much More

Gus Van Sant has long been fascinated by young people – the way they interact with each other, the way they move, the way they emote, and, most importantly, the way they die (or at the very least face their mortality head-on – you could even lump his interesting, if aimless, "Psycho" remake in there). But he's never dared to make a movie as self-indulgent, pointless, mushy, and boring as "Restless," one that borrows heavily from movies much better than it ("Harold & Maude," "Love Story," "An American Werewolf in London," countless French New Wave flicks), and fails to leave even the slightest impression, beyond the thought of never, ever, ever wanting to see it again.

Look at those two young dudes. Bet they didn't realize at the time that they would both travel through the industry together rising to the top of their respective fields, with Tim Burton one of a handful of name brand directors working today and Danny Elfman as one of the most distinctive composers on the block. Through all the shifts and tides of Hollywood, Burton and Elfman stuck together working together on every one of the director's films except for "Ed Wood" and "Sweeney Todd" and they're not about to change up that dynamic anytime soon.

You wouldn't necessarily know it from his frequently gruff screen persona, but Hugh Jackman has a long background in stage musicals -- he was plucked from his role in "Oklahoma" at the National Theatre in London to play Wolverine a decade ago, and has generally leaned towards the action end of the spectrum on the big-screen, despite the development of the likes of a musical based around P.T. Barnum, an adaptation of "Carousel," and his attachment to the sadly dead Steven Soderbergh-directed 3D "Cleo," in which Jackman would have starred alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones and Ray Winstone, to a score by Guided By Voices -- a project we'd sit through another half-dozen lacklustre Wolverine pictures to see resurrected.
