Other than the back-and-forth over whether Christopher Nolan had "fixed" the sound on the IMAX prologue that's been playing before "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" (Summary: he had! Except, oh, wait, he hadn't), 2012 has been quiet (so far) for what's widely expected to be the biggest film of the year, Batman three-quel "The Dark Knight Rises." But given the general flood of rumor, conjecture and minutiae around the eagerly-anticipated project, that couldn't last long, and the dam has broken in the last few days.

If done properly, there's nothing better than a self-referential cameo to get audiences excited about a re-make or adaptation (fingers crossed for Johnny Depp in "21 Jump Street," and director Fede Alvarez recently confirmed Bruce Campbell's appearance in "Evil Dead'). Bloody Disgusting has reported that at a "Dark Shadows" panel at Comic-Con 2011, it was announced that four original cast members of the cult '60s show will be making cameos in Tim Burton's long-gestating adaptation, starring Depp. Stars Lara Parker (Angelique), Kathryn Leigh Scott (Maggie Evans and Josette du Pres), David Selby (Quentin Collins) and the one and only Jonathan Frid (who played Barnabas Collins in the TV show, the role Depp has taken over) spent three days filming at Pinewood Studios. No word on what their roles will be or how they will fit into the movie.

A couple of things we didn't know about Alice Cooper: he still has a pretty big fanbase even though he hasn't released anything musically relevant in decades (nor has he been culturally relevant in that same span of time) and he's sponsored by Mac cosmetics. Huh. Anyway, the musician and born again Christian may make a ghoulish appearance in Tim Burton's upcoming "Dark Shadows."

But Confirms 'Frankenweenie' Will Be In 3D As PlannedIf anyone knows how to wring a buck out of 3D it's Disney and Tim Burton. The pair combined and brought in $1 billion fucking dollars with "Alice In Wonderland" last year, a post-converted abomination that even in 2D would have been painful. Regardless, audiences around the world lined up to watch. However, it looks like will abandon the format at least temporarily for his next effort, "Dark Shadows."

Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have been talking about teaming up for an adaptation of 1960s vampire soap "Dark Shadows" for years now, but for a while, it was unclear if the always-busy megastar would find room in his schedule for the film. But if "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Alice in Wonderland" taught us anything in the last few years, it's that if the pair are attached to a VFX-heavy, production design-reliant project that plays right into their comfort zones, it'll happen sooner or later. And indeed, "Dark Shadows" begins production in the U.K. this week.

Just last week, Chloe Moretz hinted via Twitter that she'd landed a role in a big, huge upcoming film with an incredibly famous director. Everyone was talking about "The Hunger Games," but Gary Ross isn't exactly a household name. We had our suspicions, especially when she gave an interview to MTV saying that the ensemble cast was the best part of the gig. Deadline has confirmed one of our guesses, announcing that Moretz will join Tim Burton's adaptation of the camp '60s television show "Dark Shadows."
